2 weeks later - my fishless cycle is going nowhere

You just need to give it more time.... It may take another week or so for nitrites to start showing since basically just started adding pure ammonia about a week ago (from how I read it anyway) You may want to watch the ammonia levels pretty close for awhile too if you added alot of fish food...

    Confused newb needs help please

Water changes will not effect your cycle.... they just lower levels of nitrites, nitrates and ammonia that is in the water. The good bacteria builds up in your filter, substrate, decorations etc.

    Confused newb needs help please

Once your cycle is done the big water change before adding fish will all depend on what your nitrate readings are. I believe I ended up doing 2 water changes before adding my fish to get the nitrates around 20. Just take a test of the nitrates after the cycle is done...You may find that the...

    Confused newb needs help please

But the ammonia level should be kept no more than 6ppm ... It seems from all I have read that ammonia levels over 6ppm can kill off the good bacteria. So the 4ppm range like kimmisc mentioned is a good number to shoot for .....It will help you produce a nice large good bacteria colony yet...

    fishy cycle

There is no magic number for how long it will take since every tank is different..... You will have to test daily to keep a close eye on especially the ammonia and nitrite levels and keep them both below .25ppm ....This may mean you will have to do daily water changes and maybe even two water...

    Question about AP liquid tests

I have always done it like I posted above...the way API says too. I just make sure the room is well lit or I even go over to a window or door to get some good light if I need to.

    nitrites question

Cant tell you how many times I have messed up by loosing count of how many drops I put in "now was that 9 or 10 drops??? " Then I have to pour it all out and start over. I think API counts on us messing up is why they make it where it takes so many drops in certain tests...so you mess up and...

Checking water after adding fish to cycled tank

If you did a fishless cycle then you will probably never notice any change ...since the good bacteria that was in it after the cycle was probably enough to handle a pretty good bioload of fish. If you are concerned any...just test it every few days and then again before you start your weekly...

how many water changes for 29 gal per week?

I really depends on the water quality to determine what % water change you should do.... I do two 30% water changes a week but I like to keep my nitrates pretty low. Just test your water after your first water change and see where you are at...if you like the readings you get then test again...

    Reducing currents for a betta?

Just put the betta in and see how it acts.... I upgraded my kids betta's from small 1 gallon to 10g tanks....It took a few days for the betta's to adjust to the current from the filters since they were used to being in the small tanks with just an undergravel type filter. I think the biggest...
