I planted a bunch of dwarf sag in my recently renovated tank and it seems to be going through the same melting process that one sees with crypts. Is this normal or is there something wrong?

pH was 6.4 this morning. Co2 has been on at a lower rate for about an hr and pH is about the same. going to increase it a bit and see what happens

I do think my CO2 levels were too high. I put a handful of neons in the tank and they were all gasping (or it looked like they were gasping, tbh I have never really looked at fish breathing in the past, but they definitely didn't look happy). Turned off the CO2 and got some more aeration...

how can anyone use this stuff if it lowers the pH so much. my water is also neutral (maybe slightly basic) out of the tap. :confused:

I do the same thing, run into an underwater filter. I got a new one, though, that does a better job at chopping up the bubbles = more CO2 dissolving into water The CO2 is off now so I'll check the pH in the morning to see if there is any difference

well I'm sure it is a combination of the two. I just changed my CO2 distribution method from one underwater filter to another and the new one is definitely more efficient.

luckily there are no fish in there right now. i'm going to grab some ph strips from my lab tomorrow to see if it is lower than 6. but what can I do? is crushed coral the best option?

i'm just assuming mine is at 6 since that's as low as my test kit goes. could be lower for all i know :eek3:

they don't look the same do they? the ones I have certainly look like the small little white ribbon (like a thick piece of human hair, biggest ones are maybe 1/5" long) things. the callamanous look more reddish.

well as long as they won't get my fish sick I'll just leave them alone until I put my fish back into the tank. fish will have a nice snack waiting for them :dance:

as of a couple days ago: pH is 6.5 dKH is 5 KH/GH is 89.5ppm ammonia: ~0.15ppm nitrites: ~0.75ppm nitrates: ~7.5ppm tank is still cycling since I changed to ADA aquasoil (hence why all my fish are housed somewhere else :lol:)
