How do I get rid of dark green algae?

Agreed. It would be easier to recommend a course of action if we could positively identify it as BGA, or not.

    Is it a boy?

Thanks msj, I found that link in another thread. I just can't tell from those photos, because I never see the snail from that angle, and I'd prefer not to pull it out of the tank if possible.

    Well water and nitrates

If nitrate evaporated, we wouldn't have it in our tanks.

How do I get rid of dark green algae?

Yep, I think of adding chemicals as a last resort. Keeping the fish happy is the main thing. i can even out up with a bit of algae, if it's not out of control.

    cycling questions... big surprise...

Yes, they do make it sound like that. But remember that these changes from one chemical to another, ammonia to nitrite to nitrate, are being effected by different, independent types of bacteria. And they are going on all the time, even when readings reach 0, it's just that the ammonia and...

    Poor little loach

Yep, my Pakistani loaches freak me out by having a little nap on their sides, maybe half hanging off a piece of driftwood, looking completely dead. But they only do it very occasionally, to maximise the effect.

How do I get rid of dark green algae?

I don't get it, if the algae is "black/green", why would it be cyanobacteria (BGA)? They look completely different.

Ten-foot crocodile gets four metal plates and 41 screws in his head

I didn't say that the crocodile's life was "less worth another". Well I wonder how much it would cost; factoring in a surgical team, operating theatre, any materials used in the surgery, wear and tear on the electric drill (!), plus the sort of care and follow up that Robo-Croc would need...

Can I move berried RC shrimp?

Thanks old lady, that's reassuring. I've never bought critters by mail, and I'm amazed they can cope with being in transit for so long. june 2000, the current shrimp are in with some guppy fry, and for what it's worth, they don't seem interested at all in the shrimp. Although these are fry of a...

Can I move berried RC shrimp?

Congrats to you too - I've only had mine for a couple of months. They are fun, and fast breeders! I've had one lot of eggs hatch already, but only half a dozen young. There are no predators where they are now, though, or where I'm thinking of moving them to. They can move incredibly fast...
