I know that the chemicals are bad for established aquariums, but since he (and I have the same problem at 8.2) are still cycling and have no stock in our tanks would the chemicals still be bad? I would think the main reason they are discouraged was because of sudden pH change.

Are they floating around or in the substrate? That is interesting, is there a cover? Also, Nitrosomonas oxidize ammonia to form nitrite, then nitrobacter convert nitrite to nitrate.

I have heard about as much good things as bad things about danios so I have decided not to go with them. I am going to go with some other type of schooling fish, so if you have any other suggestions besides danios please let me know. Something that would live well with gourami or maybe cichlid
