    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

There are electronic meters, but to read the low flow we use, they are in the 1K+ range. I did a test today, and the rough estimate is as follows: 2 bps = 5 cc/min 4 bps = 10 cc/min 6 bps = 15 cc/min 8 bps = 20 cc/min I say rough estimate, because who knows if I counted the bubbles correctly...

And one more thing. I'm surprised something like this is not more readily available for aquarium market. After fooling around with it today, it is much, much better than a bubble counter. Once again, with a larger tank, a bubble counter is almost useless. I am really liking this thing. I'm going...

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Here's where I got it. I ordered the BV model for $42.00, which has a brass valve, and they shipped the SSV model, which has the stainless steel valve. The price on the SSV is $60.50. It was to me in three days. I don't know if the stainless is really better than brass for my purposes, but I...

Just a little update.....I've been trying to find a better way to adjust my CO2 flow. With a larger tank, the bubble counter is difficult to use. To get adequate CO2, you pretty much need a constant stream of bubbles. I have been finding it very hard to adjust. After hours and hours of...

If I can help answer any questions in any way, just let me know. I've been keeping Rainbows for quite a long time, and would be happy to share my experiences.

Thanks for the kind compliment. However, there is always something cooler. Check out the 670 gallon planted tank thread active now. Makes mine look likea noob beginner!

The maroon (Red) Rainbow is a Millennium Rainbow (Glossolepis Pseudoincisus). It is not the same as the more common Irian Red Rainbowfish. The Millennium stays smaller, has finer scales, and is more brightly colored. Anyone who has kept Rainbows will tell you that Rainbows are ALWAYS hungry.

Thought I would share a video update. I think it provides a better idea of what is going on than a photo.

Thanks for the nice compliment. The hardest part is I find myself wishing I could fast forward a bit.....patience is not my greatest virtue. And hoping beyond hope it is not a total failure...... I followed Jay's 180 planted tank thread, and now realize his tank must drive him just a bit mad!

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I need to purchase a high range ph test kit. My PH after CO2 injection is right at the high end of the regular PH kit (7.6). It will be interesting to see what it measures out of the tap after gassing off. After a water change yesterday I added some GH Booster...

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Follow up post to above. I’ve been in the same house now for ten years, and have never tested my tank water. Fish healthy and happy, everything going well, so really didn’t see a need. Too much time on fish forums convinced me I needed to test my GH, KH, and PH. Since I am on a well with...

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Well, been adding plants here and there for the past month. Thinking I might have things balanced out enough that I can sit back and wait for some growth and filling in. Well, that’s my hope anyways. So here’s what has been going on. When I had a low tech planted tank, I never thought about it...

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Thanks. That's kind of the tricky part here. The fish come first, as I really enjoy my mature Rainbows. I'm hoping to get it planted enough to get a nice balance of fish and plants. Update coming soon.

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Put in a bunch of new plants in tonight. Stuff still floating around the tank and kind of a mess, fish not too happy with me, but here's where it stands now. Now we sit back and see how it goes. I really don't know what to expect. I have to say, I'm a bit nervous and anxious to see how things...

    Koi angelfish 670-gallon planted tank

Thanks for supplying more information. I'm fascinated by your set up. Somehow you made it sound relatively simple. The only bad part is now it makes the rest of look like we are dabbling in child's play.

Wow! That is simply amazing. Really, really beautiful. I hope that room is on a slab, that is a lot of weight. Provide more details sometime. That must be a full time job to take care of.

A quick update. Finally took a "before" picture. More plants coming soon. Some observations. Injecting the CO2 into the Rena XP4 seems to be working. Drop checker goes to a nice lime green, and haven't seen any bubbles at all. So far, so good. Also, the few plants I have right now are...

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Been very busy but have a few things going on now. I can see this is going to be a long process. Here's the important parts of step one: The Rena XP4 will be the CO2 reactor. The Y connectors will allow for two inflows/outflows (one each corner of the 5ft tank). The in line diffuser will be...
