    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

The largest Rainbows are over 8 years old and 5" to 6" in length. There are 23 total Rainbows, but some max out at only 3" or so. There's also the loaches, Denison Barbs, and a few Rams.

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

Well, good news. My GLA PRO CO2 system arrived today. I already ran out and got it filled up. The thing is, I'm really not fully ready for it. I also purchased a Filstar XP-XL (Rena XP-4) which isn't here yet. My plan is to run it in addition to my two Rena XP-3's. I'm only going to run...

    GreggZ's Planted Rainbow Tank

I currently have a 120 gallon (5ft) Rainbow fish tank with low tech plants. I have made the mistake of following Jay’s Planted 180g Tank thread. So after putting it off for years, I am going to attempt to go high tech with pressurized CO2. My goal is not to have the full blown undersea magical...

Greggz 120 Rainbow Tank 2014 Update Vid

For the space it's in, a 5 foot tank at 18" deep worked out perfect. I felt 6' would have been too much, and 24" deep would have stuck out into the room too much. Plus, I like the extra height. The tank is a Marineland Tank, and it's about the only 5 footer that I could find.

    No, it is a 60" x 18" x 26". It's considered an extra high tank.

Greggz 120 Rainbow Tank 2014 Update Vid

About two years ago I upgraded my 70 to a 120 gallon tank. A mix of Rainbows, Roseline Sharks, Clown Loaches, and Rams. This is how it's coming along. Hope you enjoy it. 2b8LYELz2b4

    question about Rainbow fish

I agree with the post above. You really want at least a 48" tank for Boesemani's. They do get pretty big (4" to 5") and fill out when they mature. They are also pretty active and cruise the tank all day. Praecox are more suited for a smaller tank. However, they are easily the least hardy species...

    question about Rainbow fish

When it comes to Boesemani's, there's a wide variety of colors depending on the strain. Some are more yellow/silver, some are more orange/blue. From my experience, a washed out yellow/silver one won't change into a beautiful orange/blue one. If you don't see good colors even at a small size...

Greggz 120G Planted Rainbow Tank update......

Earlier this year I upgraded from a 70 to a 120 gallonaquarium. Had a great time building a custom stand, and have really beenenjoying watching the plants fill in, and the Rainbow fish grow and color up. Theyare slow growers, but worth the wait. Here’s a video of the tank today. Hope you enjoy...

    Denison's Barbs / Roseline Sharks

Roseline's are very peaceful fish, and go great in a community tank. I've never seen one bother any other fish. They do get to about 6" at full maturity. They tend to stay in the lower third of the tank, so you might pick other fish that stay more to the middle and top of the tank. I have them...

    Different Rainbow Fish....

Just a quick note. My tank in the above vid is only males. They flash/challenge each other daily, without any females in the tank. And I've not noticed any difference in color from when I had both males and females. Of course, only my personal experience in my tank.

    Different Rainbow Fish....

From my experience keeping Rainbow fish for many years, you shouldn’t have any problems.I've had Rainbows in large schools and some just a pair only. I’ve never noticed any difference in coloration, behavior, or aggression based on the size of the group. If the fish are well fed in a healthy...

    Building a stand

Building a stand can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. As you search the web, you will see mostly two types of stands. One is made with a 2x4 frame. Some people just leave it open, and others "skin" the frame with some type of plywood veneer. The other type is constructed...

Stocking Ideas for a Rainbowfish Tank? Thoughts?

I've found the Red Irian to get just a little larger than the turquoise. They are the largest of the species I have kept (which is quite a few). When mature, the males of both species will get "taller" and really fill out. I'd also like to know your source. Your price with shipping is lower...

Stocking Ideas for a Rainbowfish Tank? Thoughts?

In the link, the top one is the Goyder River. But way, way nicer than anything I have ever seen in person. I've never seen the other one anywhere before.

Stocking Ideas for a Rainbowfish Tank? Thoughts?

I've never found a good source for Goyder Rivers. I've seen some pics on line, but all the ones I've seen in person are pretty washed out. Here's a pic of one that I had. Nice but nothing special compared to other breeds. I would love to find some that look like the pictures I have seen...

Stocking Ideas for a Rainbowfish Tank? Thoughts?

Dobber, You have great will power to keep that tank so lightly stocked. I have never put my stock list into aquadvisor, but I would guess it would be well over the limit. In my old 70 gallon tank, I had 16 Rainbows plus 4 Roseline Sharks, and a couple of bushynose. Ran that tank like that for 6...
