    Want suggestions for new fish

The weather loaches. What about Violet Gobies (Gobioides broussonnetii)? They're a truly unique and tough looking fish. :D And while I'd only keep one in your tank, it'll be easy to see as they're very active, diurnal fish (from what I've seen). Only trouble is they're brackish... I...

Thinking about setting up a pond....

Luckily there are no kids under 10 years old in the area :). I have about 7 books on stocking, maintaining, and developing a pond to read. I'm not gonna jump into something that will require too much work and I'm gonna make sure my parents know how to care for it.

But they jump! So make sure to keep your tank lid on.

    ferns and mosses

Water sprite is a common, easy to grow fern. And Christmas moss is a much prettier (imo) alternative to java moss. Ricca Flutians are nice ground cover, in good conditions individual leave will have O2 bubbles form on them giving the appearance of white tips and oxygentating the tank.

    Cory Cat Emergency!

I've red in several places that the specific species of cory does not matter, that they'll get along regardless. If this isn't true I'll gladly return the emerald and pick up another spotted. And yeah, they seem to be doing great. Tough little buggers :).

Thinking about setting up a pond....

Oh, they'll take care of it (at least my parents will). But they don't see the neccessity of doing water changes while cycling a tank because they never did when they used to have aquariums. During spring and summer when the pond will need lots of maintanice I'll be home, and I'll be home on...

    Ammonia/Nitrite spike...why?

Build up gradually with the water changes. Try this: 25% tomorrow, 40% the day after, 50% after that, two 50% after that. You'll get the water level back to 0ppm for all offending chemicals (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate). After that test daily and change the water as needed. About your levels...

Thinking about setting up a pond....

The pond is still very much in the planning phase. I havn't decided on the location or shape and as such havn't settled on picking a depth. However, I have a few ideas of what I would like. Our front lawn is, for the most part, pretty open and as such is my primary candidate for placing the...

    Cory Cat Emergency!

They seem to be okay. I put frozen bloodworms in to feed them, but my offerings were mostly ignored and the cats seem to be having a blast munching on my gravel. Since I forgot to mention this in my earlier post: the cats are juveniles and under 1". I'll upgrade the tank they're in (10gal...

    Cory Cat Emergency!

I bought 3 cories today (two spotted, one emerald), unfortunalty I didn't get time to immediatly come home and acclimate them. I just put their bag in the tank and left. They were in the bag for about 6 hours. I got home, checked on them and they were very inactive, so I took room...

    10 gallon ideas please

ADF's are fun and very comic. My pair have discovered that they can wedge themselves between the glass and thermometer and climb to the top. Then they float around on the top, sometimes for an hour or more. Pretty fun :) To feed just get some bloodworms and place at the bottom near the frogs...

Would Biospira be worth purchasing for a pond? I could get one of the largest containers, use it in the pond and both my tanks...

    how can you tell?

Snails in the whild will float inorder to move around faster. If you're really worried put the snail in a bucket with some food (blanced cucumber tied to a rock). If he's alive you'll find him on the food. If not ask Mako for a new one :P

    Does anyone keep...

Seahorses or Jellyfish? I've always wondered if these are viable marine tank inhabitants... obviously you'd need a pretty big tank, but I think it'd be worth it to have one of these amazing animals as a pet.

Thinking about setting up a pond....

I live in Colo. Springs. We have cold winters... sometimes but for the most part our freezes are short lasted and mildish. I'm thinking of putting up a pond / fountain in our front yard. We would leave the fish outside year round. One or two 200w heaters would be placed inthe pond from October...
