Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Just a quick update on the situation. Tommy is doing quite well, he's moving around a lot more, eating well and his fins are starting to relax :)

    Dwarf Gourami with Hole-in-the-Head??

Yep, Lucy didn't make it but maybe because I treated as a fungus a bacterial infection.... Using a pinch of salt and the interpet anti bacterial (I guess equivalent to Melafix) is doing the trick for the male gourami :) Apparently a small amount of salt is useful for a lot of things, in your...

    Dwarf Gourami with Hole-in-the-Head??

Based on my recent experience (gourami infected wound thread) I'd also add some antibacterial... dwarf gourami seem to be very susceptible to diseases. Any recent change on your tank?

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Sounds reasonable :) I've already given him the second dose of the first treatment (on Saturday) and I hope he won't need another treatment because he's definitively better today, fins are still a bit clamped but he's moving around much more (and not jerkily) and most importantly he's starting...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Ammonia and nitrites are stuck at 0 so far. I was feeding the fish twice a day before, now they are down to just one. I've managed to manually remove most of the bloody snails that I had in there before (overfeeding and silly me thinking that 4 groups of eggs belonged to the cherry barbs). So I...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Thanks :) The instruction don't say anything really... Just to add the 2nd dose on day 4 and that after 7 days another treatment can be started and finally if dosing is complete carbon can be returned into the aquarium... but what does it means dosing complete? Just after adding the second...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Hi Mel, Got your message and airpump installed (the airstone was already there I just had to attach the airpump). Tommy is not better neither worst... but hasn't been eating for at the least 4 days! Always spending most of the time in his corner with all fins clamped... Tomorrow I'll add the...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Thanks a lot again everyone! Today I started the treatment with Interpet product and everything seems OK so far (13 hours so far), Tommy (I promise I'll stop giving names to my fish if the one I give names to die) seems stable or maybe even slightly better. I need to give another dose on day 4...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Thanks Lime_Smash, I'll try the interpet anti bacteria first and let's see what happens, this is a big boy so it may be slightly stronger... I agree I think I'll go for the honey or for the thick lipped gourami next. So that I can later safely add a Siamese fighter too.

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Thanks Mel, You definitively helped me going through this bad experience, the time you spent mentoring me is much appreciated. I will get the anti bacterial product tomorrow morning, tonight I can already see in the male gourami the early signs I saw on Lucy: he's starting to be lethargic and...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Unfortunately I found her dead in the morning :( Anyway I feel we did everything we could to try to save her, but maybe it was already too late... I'm really glad I had your help and support Mel, thanks!!! Any recommended action to clear/disinfect the tank or should I just do the usual 30%...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

I'm going to bed not (midnight approaching here) and she is still hanging there in her favorite spot.... Reading here and there I found this interesting product (that I should be able to find) successfully used by lot of people to cure dropsy: Interpet Anti Internal Bacteria For internal...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

Thanks a lot for your help and support Mel and Kristina! If she makes it tonight I'll try finding the antibiotic (it is going to be tough because in UK you ALWAYS need a prescription for that), and I'll get an airpump too. I guess at this stage the salt can't do much harm, so I'm giving it a go...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

I've put her on a breeding net in her favorite corner (I don't want the other fish to eat her alive), and I'm slowly adding salt...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

She may have a few hours left, she is now dragged around by the current... I don't think she'll manage to make it till tomorrow... so I'm adding salt, this would either save her or kill her altogether... but at this stage worth a try... How slowly should I add the dissolved salt?

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

True but I can't see the spores thought... Assuming it is not DGD it could be either: Systemic fungal infection (there is nothing I can do, I can keep on treating with protozin tomorrow if she is still alive). Dropsy (not sure how serious is this, maybe Lucy can resist one more night with no...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

No from the top, but it could be just starting from the bottom. What is sure is that she is not doing well, I doubt she'll be alive tomorrow morning if I don't do something.... Please follow my reasoning doctor Mel :) It all started with a wound when I got the fish last week on Saturday. The...

Gourami infected wound - Help please!

What's Epsom salt, aquarium salt? I don't have it at home anyway. I can't see the scales protruding yet, not sure about the one below, close to her belly, those look extremely shining at the moment.
