75 Gal. (Built-In Wall) Tank Plans

There is a shop here in Dallas that has some of the best looking in wall mounted tanks I've ever seen. It's www.dallasnorthaquarium.com but I dont think they have pics of the tanks on the site yet. They used darker colored walls with a picture frame mounted around the facade of the tank...

    Water Purifier

I have been debating the same time, although on a larger scale. I was wondering what effects those house scale water purifiers/softeners have on water you might use in a tank. Does it remove all the chlorine/chloramine?

    Biowheels and CO2

The biowheel increases the O2 contact with the water surface. This is the reason that the bacterial cultures are so much more effective. Unfortunately this also increases the amount of gas exchange which can occur between the water and air, and in that process CO2 escapes the water and is...

New to Plants-Trying to plant my 15 gallon

Here's a plant I consider great for starting off tanks. It's called Foxtail. Specifically Green Foxtail. It grows so abundantly taht I actually have it in Mbuna tanks and they cant nibble it to death faster than it grows. Drawback, frequent pruning. I use this plant especially when...

    Eclipse system 3 lighting retrofit.

Depending on the amount of substrate it's going to be about 6-8 inches between light and bottom of the tank. I dont think i'd have the space for that AH retrofit kit inside the hood. but the ballast idea would work on the outside. I'm going to try it with the normal light but a new bulb and...

    Eclipse system 3 lighting retrofit.

The tank comes with an f6 T% bulb of the "daylight" variety. In theory that's 6 watts of CF level flourescent over a 3 gallon tank I should be fine. I was just wondering if anybody had found a hopped up lighting solution for it.

    Eclipse system 3 lighting retrofit.

I have a couple eclipse system 3 tanks with the hoods and filters sitting around colelcting dust. I was hoping to bring one up here to my office to have a nice tank on my desk. I was wondering if there are any known lighting retrofit and or upgrade kits so I can keep a slightly wider range...

    Lamps. LFS vs. Lowes?

You can do better than cool white. I think there are 4' "sunlight" or "plant" or "full spectrum" lights at most hardware stores that are still MUCH less expensive. As in maybe $6 a pop and will probably give you a better light temp and spectrum. Cool white bulbs aren't the best for growing...

    Infertile Severum

I have a lovely pair of green severums in a tank who have paired up and spawned a few times now. Before I was assuming other fish were getting to the eggs and that's why i never saw any fry. They lay a large area of gold colored eggs. Some turn whitish, I assume these ar ethe ones that...

    "black rubber worm"

My girlfriend said she used to keep one of these when she was younger in an aquarium. I have never heard of it. Any ideas on what normal species name might eb associated with this? Has anybody heard of these?

    Neon Tetra Question

Soup and Nuts? heh It's downright difficult to do well. But if you search on the web in the last few years there was a big research project done by a university in florida on how to get them to spawn more readily and produce better offspring.

    Source for inexpensive CF fixtures/bulbs?

Hurm... THat's a good idea with the "overclocking" of the bulbs. I might have to give that a go. I saw some 55 watt cf "replacement" bulbs meant to fit into standard sockets mentioned on another post here, I believe it was http://www.fullspectrumsolutions.com/Fluorescent.htm that I was also...

My first REAL DIY project (pics)

See, The fullspectrumsolutions one there lists a CF "replacement bulb" which puts out 55 watts of CF lights. With that I'd only need about 6 bulbs to hit my goal of around 3wpg. Many of the others though just say 19 or 23 watts which really isnt what i can use. ALso, the...
