STOCKING QUESTION FOR 36 GALLON BOW advise greatly appreciated :)

With the cories, I'd go bronze. Albinos can't handle high-light as well as most fish.

    Am I doing this right?

Going to be frank, when in doubt throw it out. If you think it will kill or otherwise harm your fish, toss it because losing another tank is probably more expensive than replacing a filter.

    Am I doing this right?

Going to be honest, getting some bleach might be the best way to do it. Other than that I can't really think of a good way to purge the filter. Maybe a brine mix if the virus can only survive in freshwater? I don't have much experience with viruses so don't quote me on any of this haha.

    Stocking a 55 gallon

I've suggested this before, but I'll to it again: Don't use Prime to detoxify. Let the tank detoxify itself so that you can actually know what your cycle is over and that you aren't simply putting a band-aid on it to prevent a crash.

    Silver Problems -_-

So, here's something new(ish): The 'sick' fish now has a black dot on each side of its body, above the gills I think, maybe on them. I looked online, apparently they do this when males are ready to breed? Any ideas why it would pop up on a fish that can't even hold itself right-side up right now?

    Stocking a 55 gallon

With 6 swords and 7 cories and perfect stats I'd keep it at that stock for another 3 days, then slowly add the fish into the tank (if possible with cichlids lol). Since I'm a community keeper I don't actually know what fish can go with a cichlid.

    'New' 5 gallon tank.

Just a suggestion, rehome/return the lone cory. They are very social fish that need schools of 4-5 individuals to survive (which your tank can't handle). Other than that very sweet :)

    Silver Problems -_-

I hate this waiting... I know it's going to die (the one stuck on its side) but the fish is literally healthy except for that. It ate plenty until it got stuck, it still tries to swim (to the point I had to put it into a net so it wouldn't get startled from being in high light) it's breathing...

My planted 110 gallon build log **update** plants!!

Regarding the rasbora, I've found that once they get comfortable in a tank (without predators) they tend to spread out a little. Seems most schooling fish do that, as not a single fish in my 75 schools for more than a few seconds when they all decide "lets go that way!"

I am having a horrible start to the day - fish die off

The swords are far hardier than people would think. Most fish are, but livebearers more so even than most fish. I wouldn't use Prime anymore in that tank... it *is* possible that you have been having high ammonia/nitrate/nitrite and the Prime was keeping it from hurting your fish without fixing...

    Silver Problems -_-

I know... that doesn't mean I don't like the species now haha. I'll find it a better home if I can, or give it the best possible care myself if I can't. -adds this to his list of reasons not to have children-

BAH! Why do you do this? I literally named it in my head because of this post XD

    Silver Problems -_-

So I've become attached to the healthy one (probably not a good thing). My tank has the filtration and size to handle a solid 5 or so Silver Dollars (the smaller breeds at least) would that be in any way logical to do or would wanting to be stupid and irresponsible? (sorry if these seems like a...

    Silver Problems -_-

Now to search for a LFS that wants a somewhat sickly Silver Dollar that doesn't know what plants are (not kidding, this fella's in a heavily planted tank and hasn't even taken a nibble yet, inhales flakes though). That said, I wish I could keep them, they're surprisingly pretty for a plain...

    Silver Problems -_-

Will the last silver dollar be able to survive on it's own or does it need to have at least 1 other of its species? My tank is pretty overfiltered so I could manage probably a small group (3-5) without without crashing it, assuming I QT them first and whatnot. I would only be overstocking by...

I am having a horrible start to the day - fish die off

The reason it spiked could well have been the, you know, dead fish. They started to decay and caused the ammonia to begin to spike up massively. The fish that survived probably just hadn't be affected by the spike yet because they died recently. The loss of the spike could be due to the lack...

    Silver Problems -_-

Gah! I can't believe I made such stupid mistake :wall: I haven't added fish to my tanks in almost 2 years so I completely forgot about old-tank syndrome :( Should've put them in the 20g with a lot of their own water and then slowly changed it out over a week or so :footinmouth:

    Silver Problems -_-

So, as per this thread I acquired 2 Silver Dollars from my moms friend. They are/were both very thin and less than healthy (gasping for breath and all that fun stuff :headshake2:). They both ate well when I fed them and seemed to be doing well in the tank I put them in (no QT because they've...

I am having a horrible start to the day - fish die off

How large a tank was this and what was the stocking? Is it possible you have a fish (cory or swordtail) that died and is missing in the tank? And is it possible that your tank ended up being oxygen deprived due to removing the bubble wand?
