I have an API freshwater test kit. I thought I was having problems cycling my tank and decided to test my tap water. According to the kit my tap water has ammonia at .50 and 1.0 ppm. The tap water has never had ammonia before. So I decided to test some bottled water... same readdings...

My guess is mold from the tank was bothering your allergies, mold would have to be on the outside of the tank. I'm sure you would notice that. My allergies are a lot worse in this apartment, but its because there is a lot of dust outside my apartment building. Can you get some type of air...
