    Suggestions for 150g rr tank

Yeah, if anything a sump is better (more room for media); it's just more of a hassle to set up than plug-in-and-go canisters. Planted tanks don't need as rigorous a water change schedule as unplanted tanks, but they still need regular wc's. My planted, lightly-stocked 65 gets a 25% wc every...

    Suggestions for 150g rr tank

In my experience at least, UGF's are not low-maintenance in planted or heavily stocked tanks. Waste/mulm may accumulate beneath the plate more rapidly than the bacteria consume it, eventually becoming anoxic sludge; once this happens you have to tear apart your aquascaping to clean it. I would...

    It's not a tortoise.

    100 gallon stocking

Get a net. The canals in south Florida are teeming with exotic cichlids, plecos, and other released aquarium fishes. The less-impacted areas have many beautiful native fishes. If I were you I would set up a sand-bottomed planted tank with native schoolers such as: KILLIFISH Fundulus...

    One of these doesn't belong....

The turtle is Asian, the guppy and tetra are Latin American. So number one doesn't belong!

Those are beautiful shots, especially the fish.

post your insect and invert pics...

Very nice! BTW your 'pine beetle husk' is actually from a cicada. Here are some from a local swamp: Burrowing crayfish, out prowling on a rainy day Flower beetle on goldenrod Meadow katydid trying to hide from the paparazzi Planthopper Little brown scorpion Paper wasp...

    pond paint

You don't need to paint the cement. You can cure the surface with vinegar or other acid; hopefully someone else here can give you detailed instructions. You can also just fill the pond, let it sit for a few weeks, then drain and refill it. Check the pH daily for several days; if it continues...

    Some pics of our sunfish

Nice sunnies, Caity and Doo! I think Jaysen is right, your brighter sunnies are Pumpkinseeds. The short opercular lobe and 'Indian corn' pattern are distinctive. Only if it's a private pond, isolated from all other waters. It is illegal in most US states to return captive fish to public...

so i need suggestions to do this right

    1) A 55 will be OK, but a tank that is wider would be better; a 65 or 75 would be ideal, and you could even add a third goldfish. 2) Your little guys will do fine on flakes; just upgrade to pellets when they get bigger. Be sure to use flakes meant for goldfish or herbivorous fish; ordinary...

    Incandesent light bulb wattage questions

Powerheads are pretty cheap; you'd only need a tiny one, which should run you under $15. I think if you were lighting multiple tanks, straight-tube bay fixtures would make more sense than that spotlight-type bulb (unless you are going for some dramatic lighting effect).

    What is this limpet-like organism?

    That's a handsome leech!

    Weird daphnia looking things

I give them yeast periodically, but they seem to do just as well on filter rinsings and green water.

Can the frame be removed from an aquarium?

The tank needs that rim for structural integrity. Removing it is likely to end in disaster. However, there are tanks made without rims. Glasscages makes them: http://glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=46; there may be someone closer to you who makes them as well. They're not cheap, but I...

    Incandesent light bulb wattage questions

I'm not sure where halogen is coming from; that sounds like a description for a regular CFL. It would be fine for your tank. I wouldn't fool with halogen lights.

    Incandesent light bulb wattage questions

No, you would actually have about 4 wpg. So here's the rundown: The watts per gallon rule is based on the wattage of straight tube fluorescent bulbs; so, a total of 36 W of straight tube fluoros over your 20 = 1.8 wpg. Incandescents put out way less light per watt used than fluoros, so the...

    Weird daphnia looking things

I haven't specifically cultured copepods, but they thrive in my daphnia colony. Let us know how your experiment turns out!

    Weird daphnia looking things

The white appendages on the copepods are egg sacs. Good luck figuring out which species they are; there are a ton of them and most are very similar to one another. If you really want to know, send them to a specialist.

    guppy population control

Just net out the excess little'uns and toss them in your 55. That should be the end of that.

    To use carbon or not?

You'll just have to see how quickly it gets clogged up. I have polyfil in my biggest tank; I have to rinse it about once a week and change it once a month, but you may not need to be so rigorous.
