20 gal long, lighting guidance needed plz

So pappy, are you saying that by just cutting light, he might be able to get rid of it? Not doubting, truly interested. I have never been able to get rid of cyno (in my reef or fw tanks) without dosing Ultra Reef (red or green), but I didn't cut lights either.

    New Malawi Tank

:) Great! I was skeptical as many with any "instant cycle" product, having lived thru the first ones out back in the 90"s, but after reading the MFK thread decided to try it. Just remember to keep it up for 2 weeks....

If it's truly cyno, it's not algae, cutting down the light won't make a difference. Cyno is a bacteria, you need meds to get rid of it. If it's algae, cutting down the light might work.

20 gal long, lighting guidance needed plz

8 hours a day is plenty of light for a planted tank. As far as the Cyno, I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Ultralife-Reef-Green-Algae-Remover/dp/B0012PV7VS It's never failed me.

    Stupid betta :*(

Over the years I've heard the same thing, but googling finds there are as many that say that it's fine as say that's it not fine. I know I've used it on bettas that have come to me with torn fins, never had a problem with it.

20 gal long, lighting guidance needed plz

If I'm mistaken, I apologize to start, but I'm pretty sure Leaf Zone is micro's only. I have two 20g longs, both dirted planted, several years old, with this light on it: http://www.amazon.com/Aqueon-Coralife-05618-Aqualight-Freshwater/dp/B0009YHU2I/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1327452754&sr=8-16...

Suction cup planter for tall aquarium?

I have several philodendrons growing yards long from Riparium.com planter cups, been stuck literally for years on the back of my tank. Also, be careful using magnets, if they slip out of your hand, and hit the tank glass hard, you can crack ur tank.

will this work to change water?

You have a sink, and a down hill run. Why not just invest in a python or similar product? Makes wc's soooooo easy.

    New Malawi Tank

Go here: http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Stability.html read up on it. I usually continue using it for a few 2 weeks. Last tank I didn't even test my water (bad habit but I was a busy lady). I've never had it fail me. I'm going to redo a 75g next month, and a 29g, plan on...

    New Malawi Tank

I'd use the Stability, and do no more water changes unless the ammonia is up again. Have you tested your tap water?

    New Malawi Tank

I've cycled my last 4 tanks with the stuff, never had a problem. But you have to follow the directions, make sure you shake the he!! out of it, it should appear cloudy when pouring into tank. Here is the MFK thread I found, it's what convinced me to use it...

    New Malawi Tank

Def too many fish at one time. Doing daily wc's will speed up the cycle, but I would go spend 10$ on a bottle of Seachem Stability, follow the directions, you should be fine after 2 weeks. Just remember to shake the bottle before adding it to your tank, make sure the liquid coming out is...

    Rummy nose tetras

I've kept rummy's several times, never noticed a difference in the amount of red in their noses. They will let you know if something is amiss in your tank, they will fade in color. The fact that it's got more color in it's nose now than when you first put them in your tank is a good thing...
