From my (limited) experience, I'd like to offer my opinion on things:
1) I like the outer 'cap' 2x4's with the inner ones as well. I used this concept in my stand as well. However, I found that my level of accuracy with the lengths was not quite as good as I hoped for, so I did not end up...
I built my own stand cause I thought it'd be cheaper than a LFS stand/prefab one from homedepot, (it might have been a tad cheaper) but I am not sure if I'd do it again... I'd like to think of myself as handy with a saw, glue, and screws, but I wasn't quite pleased with the aesthetics of it...
Very cool link. I never looked for pump reviews, but that one was really informative (from looking at the pictures). I was pretty skeptical that pumps actually draw less power when pumping up higher heads, but that's what the charts say.

Do you happen to have a short, introduction video? A 33 minute video is a little too long to grab my attention as a random browser... Maybe if in the first 3 minutes you show the fully set up tank, then I would be inclined to watch the entire video.
Sorry to be a downer, but I was hoping it...
Wow, not fun! Did you notice a spike when Miss Irene came around? It's annoying here because you could drive a couple miles in any which direction, and gas could go up (or drop) by a at least a quarter.
That's expensive? Don't move out to LA where $3.65 is 'cheap'.
I am kind of surprised that disassembling tanks is cheaper than buying the panels of glass. It seems temping to try to learn how to drill holes in these tanks, since the other pieces of glass could be salvaged for...
