Uninteruptable power supplies and their use for fishkeeping

UPS are commonly used in the business world to protect computers, but how many of you use them to at least keep your filtering and heating going for a while, in the result of a electric cut? If not, what is your contingency plan for such an emergency? How long would your fish cope before...

AqAdvisor.com - WEB version of AquAdvisor

I was wondering how easy it would be to add filters for criteria such as:- Size range Water hardness range Temperature range Diet (Carnivore, herbivore, omnivore) Typical level used in tank (top; middle; bottom; combinations) Origin (Continents/countries; still/slow/fast water...

Hengels's Rasbora (upside down copper Nike sign) are a fraction bigger than 1" but look lovely, as do Galaxy Rasboras

    please help me stock 85g

Please confirm with others, but I believe Redlines are plant-friendly. Especially when young, they love to explore the base of the tank and its bogwood network, apparently. Like the much smaller Cherry Barbs, they are supposed to be good community tank fish, especially boistrous lively species...

    please help me stock 85g

You could do an African biotope on a grand scale with that tank, fish such as:- African Buterfly Congo Tetra Alestes Tetra African Glass Catfish "gardneri" killifish (bottom dweller, won't cope with the big predators below) Red Eye Tetra (perhaps dangerously small for following ideas) African...

    Dang it you guys!

I hope that I don't develope MTS, I already have MBS (more bike syndrome, currently an out-and-out racer; a cyclocross single speed; a hardtail cross country) and we have too much furniture for this place as it is! :D

Please, no! Getting "cold feet" about stocking plans...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry... During the round today, which involved popping into the LFS that started this pipe dream becoming a reality over the last month, I'm now questioning the idea posted this morning!:pc: I love the looks of all four "zippy" fish species (Giant/ Green Barred...

Please, no! Getting "cold feet" about stocking plans...

Oh dear, you may not believe what happened since posting this thread I went to another LFS, this time in Cadnam (on Southampton / New Forest border) and it has brought another [colourful and lively] combo to the forefront! Yes folks, the African theme, just like the other ones mentioned in...

Please, no! Getting "cold feet" about stocking plans...

I'm a beginner to tropical fish keeping, having taken delivery of a "Juwel Rio 240" [120(l)x41(w)x51(d)cm] tank and black cabinet at the weekend. I added a ~5Kg tub of "Deponitmix" [plant suplementing, clay based substrate] to the tank's base a couple of nights ago, in preparation for...

    Algae Eater...What kind to buy?

I believe they can be quite territorial, but isn't the Florida Flagfish an algae eater?

Building a community around Pelvicachromis taeniatus "Moliwe"

Hi, I'm about to go on a West African semi-predatory biotope adventure and I'm interested in your Fundulopanchax gardneri. I currently plan Golden Wonder Panchax instead of any African killis, as the Panchax is a top dweller (vital as mid and lower is sorted) and will hold its ground against the...

    Kribensis Tankmates

"Nigerian Red" Kribs (and a few other Nigerian types) are more placid than the Pulcher Krib, which might work better for you. Another possibility is the Transvestite Cichlid (don't laugh, I ain't joking ;) ). The African Butterfly Cichlid comes to mind too. There's another African dwarf...

    Cichlids in a 20 gallon?

If your water is hard and alkalinine, the Transvestite Cichlid (I kid you not, west African species where the male is unusually drab and the female has spots of blue and purple) might just be ok. They grow to ~5cm.

Stocking for my now cycled 20 gallon

Hmm, lost my first attempt at a reply! :( I believe Zebra Danios do best in schools of 5+. However, they might be a bit cramped in your 20g, depending on dimensions. They are lively swimmers. Other <4cm fish that I can think of during my last month of research which you may want to check out...

    Killie compatability

I have Golden Panchax on my 60g (mainly African semi-predatory oddball) stock planning list, simply because they are such a tough killi and it just so happens they have lovely colouring too! Oh and I would agree with what has been said above, from what I have read but not personally...
