THe ones you found under the gravel are good to have around, theyre called malasian trumpet snails, and they stir up your gravel/keep it from getting anaerobic. the other snails are pond snails

i would try duckweed, it is the most common/easy to grow.

looks like a bullhead to me, but they arent tropical... if it is a bullhead it will grow to be about a foot long, what else is in the tank?

you could do low-light plants such as java ferns/moss, crypts, hygrophilas might grow in there most mosses will grow in that light, as for fish, my endlers livebearers don't pick at my shrimp
