Hey all, I just got these beauties in from Razzo!! Thanks buddy!!
I had 3 of his calvus in there already. They've grown fast but are pretty lonely. So I ended up getting 5 more Calvus, 6 Orange Fin Comps, and 8 Callochromis.
The tank has much more life and excitement now.
This one is...
Thanks all,
I was a little skeptical about the white at first too. But This was a "Yes Dear" type of project... :)
I'm pretty happy with the turnout too! I have some nice fancy handles that I am supposed to mount on the doors. They match our night stands. Maybe I'll get to that soon...
Here is...
Along with the exterior paint, I dressed up the bare side of my tank with another cedar stump. I was happy to find one that didn't come up out of the water.
They aren't dwarf, but slow growers. They get about 4-5"
My biggest surprise in dealing with Altos is their sensitivity to water conditions. They like the water a certain way, so much testing and balancing is in order to keep them happy and healthy.
Temperament: I'd say most altos are easy...
Thanks guys!
I'm supposed to paint the wall light tan now. its the only wall in the house that's still white.
That should stop me from tripping over it :)
My wife wants everything country, white and blue. So I was forced to paint my tank stand and canopy. :)
4 coats of white later, turned out ok.

Oh, and I picked up some Nerite snails and this little Goldhead Comp today at the LFS :)
It's been three months and things have greatly improved. If anyone runs across this issue in the future, here is a run down of my process for my 75 gallon tank.
-I treated twice with Ultra-Life for blue-green algae, 2 months apart. It really helped to knock the cyano back to a manageable level...
uuuhhhh!
I think I just found the source to this problem...
I took all the shells out, and treated them in the tub. The last two days, they were just sitting in the dry tub. When I went to take them out, the tub smelled HORRID.
I lightly sniffed a couple shells, and a few of them stunk...
so i've kept cleaning, and cleaning. doing 30-40% changes weekly. It was slowing the cyano down, but not enough. It started growing on the back wall again so i got some meds.
Ultra-Life for blue-green algea. It seems to be working really well so far. During the last cleaning, I was able to...
Dang!! vacuuming isn't really getting rid of the cyano, so I went the LFS and got some meds... I'll probably start administering them today.
The guy at the LFS said that I should take the carbon out of the filter while treating. Any thoughts on this?
