    Scleromystax barbatus

Ive never been much into catfish but Ive obtained a couple to breed recently I was surprised to see my Scleromystax barbatus spawning a couple of weeks ago being only 2 inches or so They are by themselves (7 fish)in a standard 4 ft tank with a large canister filter and spray bar.Temp 19 (they...

    Hoplo fry

The fry seemed fairly inactive for 2 days them spead out over the tank.I put some micoworms in day 2 but they ate BBS on day 3 without trouble.I think it means they took 2 days to absorb their yolk sac

    neolamprologus brichardi with neolamprologus multifasciatus

Given the tank dimensions(fairly flat) I agree that the multis will expand to fill the space .Having said that I often have rainbows or blue eyes with my shell dwellers(they enjoy the same water).I keep Ps furcatus with multis, have M.eachamensis with my similis,G maculosis with my...

Fry PICS - Callochromis pleurospilus (Raspberry Ikola)

They look great and a small amount of yolk sac doesnt seem to cause many problems, they are a bit more fragile than fully formed fry so minimize the current in the tank

Fry PICS - Callochromis pleurospilus (Raspberry Ikola)

I strip mine about 14 days and they are normally without or minimal yolk sac.Kilesa are a piece of cake compared to Calvus, you'll have no trouble. That looks like a good mouthful 20-30 Id say

Fry PICS - Callochromis pleurospilus (Raspberry Ikola)

Good news I strip my females a couple of hours after lights out to reduce stress(esp for me) The fry are large and can take BBS from the start. The are fairly prolific 20-40 fry.I raise them in a 10 gallon tank then into a 70 gallon for grow out. They are sensitive to poor water quality bu no...

    levamisol and hydra

I have a serious outbreak of hydra which is a problem as I breed alot of rainbows(40 species or so).I was under the impression that levamisol was active against these critters.I have a soution of levamisol (14g/L)using a dose of 1ml per 7 L.I tested it on a badly infested tank with some...

Fry PICS - Callochromis pleurospilus (Raspberry Ikola)

I have a Cannon EOS 500D with a 100mm macro lens.My flash is off to the side and activated wirelessly. Those photos were taken in the morning before lights on. The front on flash seems good for fish with reflective colours like rainbows and these guys. For some fish I try to use the flash from...

Your doing a great job with the photos:)You have exceptional water clarity and clean glass!!(apart from amazing fish) Ive been trying to capture rainbows on film which Ive finding difficult, they never stay still I try and use high F stop(F 12+) to get good depth of field, fast shutter speed...

    Question about hydra

I believe levamazole and its relatives (as suggested) get rid of it as does a product called No-Planaria which is derived from the betel-nut. Im currently plagued with it esp in my rainbow raising tanks,Im currently trying to get hold of the latter product which apparently is snail and shrimp safe

    Heat Wave....

Some fish tolerate high temperatures quite well.We had a heat wave here last year and had 3 days in a row of 47 C about 117 of your farenheit. My fish room got to over 40 C (104)over that period.I lost most of my Fundulopanchax killis and lots of cichlids but my New Giunea rainbows esp...
