    Feeding hillstream loaches

I feed mine shrimp pellets and Pure Aquatic bottom feeder pellets. They are both big but when they are in the water for just a bit they get soft. mine love them and I alternate between they to give them a balanced diet. They also like green beans, don't ask me why, but they do.

    Trust a 1977 55 gallon aquarium?

Most silicone is rated for 20 to 30 years. I would just keep that in mind when making your decision. They are many videos on YouTube about how to reseal a tank that are very helpful. It doesn't take that long and it is good experience for the future. It is cheap to reseal but expensive to...

what are some small shell/cave dwellers?

Depending on the size of your tank any loach you get is usually small enough, when you buy it and for awhile, to use them as a hiding place. Clown Loaches, are pretty and they have a good bit of personality. I am guessing that if you want to add a lot of jars you have a larger tank. Most loaches...

how to make this tank the best possible environment for my cutteri and green plecos

Well what everyone means is that a single green pleco can reach 6". I understand that you will not buy them at 6" but they still need room to move and places to hide. The way the pic looks it is just a pile of rocks in the tank with no hiding places. Second you mentioned you are going to make it...

How much filtration is too much?

You can never have too much filtration. The more the better. The only thing you need to be concerned with is how much current they are creating compared to what your fish require. Some fish, like loaches, require a lot or current. While others, like angels, prefer only a moderate amount of...

Best biological filter media for my Fluval 305?

I use an eheim 2236 and have always used Efhisubstrat Pro. I have never had a complaint. I even place some in the bottom of my HOB filters so if I change them I don't have to do another mini-cycle.

    Stocking a 10g tank

If you are not ready that is ok. Just wait, no harm in that. If you want something to help clean up the tank you can add an apple snail or two. They are actually pretty cool.

    Stocking a 10g tank

I don't think you should put 12 fish, regardless of size, in a 10 gallon tank. It is too much. All of these fish will mature to 2" or slightly less. Are you planning on getting a larger tank at some point? I would suggest skipping the Guppies, they will reach 2 1/2" pretty quickly. I would...

Pictures of the flooding in my little area- load warning

Just 10 miles away from where I live here in MD they evacuated the town of Port Deposit. Fortunately I live at a higher elevation. I hope you didn't have any damage to your home and things straight out for you soon as well. We just got hit with another massive thunder storm and down pour too...

    Mirror or no Mirror

All of my tanks have solid black backgrounds and it creates a mirror effect. I am with the rest don't like the mirror, sorry.

    New tank filteration

Do you have a pic of the wall niche. Any suggestions for outside the tank filtering are useless if you can't get to it anywhere or just don't have the space. If your only option is in the tank filtering I would suggest several sponge filters running on powerheads. If all else fails then an...

    Is my tank overstalked?

i would not be concerned about adding another fancy or two. Loaches though require a tank with a lot of current where gold fish do not. I would suggest moving the hill stream loaches into your 30. They don't get any bigger than a couple of inches. By moving the loaches you would then have room...

    Pleco Problems

Liquid test can also create false readings as well if you have used any chemical (ie. Prime, Amquel, Ammolock, etc.) to detoxify Ammonia, Nitrites or Nitrates. Test strips work fine. I have an API Master Test Kit and test strips and have never found test strips to be inaccurate. I often use test...

Will switching filters kill my good bacteria?

I run canister filters on most of my tanks, my preference. I also run Aqueon Quiet Flow Filters as well. In my Aqueon filters I drop bio media in as well as the regular cartridges. That way if i do change the filter I can just transfer the bio media over to the new one and you don't have to...
