Its funny; I've been around aquariums for quite a while now and done all kinds of research for planted tanks....only recently have I read about substrate heating lol...prob wasnt reading the right things I guess. Anyway, Ive got a 55 gal planted with no substrate heater and everything seems...
Just checked out your forum! Seriously COOL! I think I may have to build a tank like this one day...its an awesome idea; and it looks to me like you executed it quite well! lol I love the nursery in the downstream section!
Welcome to the forum! Its a great place to make new friends and there is alot of really helpful information on most every aquatic topic here! I can say its helped me greatly!
Hi, where I live we have well water and we have a water softener as well...I just fill up my water and put the right amount of water conditioner (most of the time) before I put it in the tank. I have a 15 gal low tech planted tank which is flourishing and a recently started 55 gal planted tank...
Thanks for all the compliments! Forgot to add that I have been running co2...have a 7lb tank and built a reactor that hangs on the back of the tank. (I have to AC110s for filters) I know most do a reactor inline with a canister filter... My reactor is 2'' pvc with 3/4'' (Dont remember for sure)...

Tanks looks awesome! I love them; tryin to get started on a 55 gal planted tank myself. I currently have a 15 gal planted but doesnt look nearly as awesome as these! Great job!

Just switched over my 55 to a planted set up, switched gravel for flourite and got a handful of plants from my buddy that he didnt have room for any more. For a light I built a new wooden housing, pretty similar to what comes with a stock hood; and wired 4 cfls in it (currently 26 watt...
Original light housing with custom wiring and 2 15 watt 6500k cfl bulbs, diy co2 setup. Assorted plants, 3 Harlequin Rasboras, 1 striata botia, couple ghost shrimp, and some snails... What do ya think, any suggestions?
