So, what is the best type of schooling fish for a 55g

Espeis are nice. Rummies, Cardinals, and Lemons. I really like featherfin and celebes rainbows. They school very well.

    Confused about salt in FW

If you are thinking of using salt for ich, then all you really need to do is crank up the heat to over 86 preferably closer to 88. No salt needed. Sent from my iPhone using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

LFS has big show tank with Frontosa and Midas with Africans, anyone try this before?

Yup! Too small for fronts or Midas. You need a six foot tank for large fish like that. Sent from my iPad using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

noob question: should your frequency of water changes be dependent on stocking

I change insane amount of water. But most of tanks are heavily stocked.

Petsmart and its "BIG SALES"!! (a true story!!) :P

I wouldn't get cardinals from petsmart that just got released from the bag or from any place for that matter. They may not even make the trip back home.

    More cories okay?

One clown loach is not a good idea. Like aviva said you need a school for each fish. I would say at least 4 for loaches and 8 for corys.

more Tanganyikan pictures and a ID if you could

Not so sure about the guy in the 4th picture being a calvus. Some sort of calvus cross, may be? But not pure bred, I don't think.

electric blue ram beating up on my malwai and frontosas?

Your ram can't harm other fish you listed in the tank. If I were you, I would be concerned about ram's safety. When the frontosa grows, it will probably eat your ram if it's not dead already because your malawis beat up on the poor guy.

    Ugh my petsmart

You are probably right. But if you are spending close to $20 a fish at stores like Petco/Petsmart, they have to somewhat serious about fish keeping and fish you are buying, right?

    Ugh my petsmart

This is how I got started with tropheus. Got one from petco many years ago. I threw him in my 125G african cichlids tank, I really liked him, and he did well. Then I learned more about them and I have kept several colonies since then. I currently have a two small colonies in my 90G, again...

    Rainbow and yellow lab mistake?

What's the foot print of your tank? Your tank may be too small for the fish you are keeping.

    Canister filter recommendation

Craigslist is good source for used aquarium stuff. You can find some good deals including cannister filters. I have an FX5. It works well, but not a big fan.

    Canister filter recommendation

I like Rena XP4. I have eheim, fluval, rena, and cascade cannister filters, but Renas are the best value, I think.

Discus breeders in and around Virginia?

Right. Not a biotope. As you said, my loaches are huge and seem quite comfortable in my tank. I do a lot of water changes because of stocking level. I do about two 75% water changes a week. I think I can do more, but that's what I do. Corys seem fine. I don't think there's any agression...

Discus breeders in and around Virginia?

So reptileguy, how much water change do you think I need on my tank? It's a 265G by the way. Shots of fish: Videos: zPfWX-KeXj4 dNoF32V2siA

How many Discus to add to the tank at a time?

Merlot, where are you located? I have been to Hans' place several times. He is one of the best sources in North America when it comes to high quality discus. Good luck!

    New wild caught L-134's

Good luck breeding these guys. I heard it's not easy. There is a person named Larry (apistomaster) who breeds L134s. Don't know whether or not he is active here, but active at simplydiscus.com. He posted a thread on describing what he does to breed these guys.
