    Blackwater Fish

Thanks for the replies, so reds are visible just subdued like the vid shows :( Yes cardinals are on the short list:) as are rams, and corys either Aeneus or Brochis Splendens, also considering Altum angels or Discus. A little nervous about the last 2

    Blackwater Fish

Evening folks, I am thinking about starting a S/A blackwater tank. I have researched appropriate species for the habitat, but my question is about the appearance of the fish. I have watched some youtube vids and it looks like fish with certain colors are more visible than others, for example...

    New (to me) 125

The API master kit is in my amazon cart, seems like all are in agreement there. If the sump is sufficient by itself that would be a huge savings. If I can do the plants without co2 I probably do that, I had hoped you could just turn on a self contained kit and it would be good but it seems...

    New (to me) 125

Thank you all for replying, I had fish tanks when i was younger but not for at least a decade, I have been reading the forum for a couple months but in the meantime treat me as a noob, I don't mind :) I had been running several ideas in my head as far as fish go but i think i have decided on...

    New (to me) 125

I scored a used 125g off craigslist today and I hope I can get some recommendations on equipment. I see many folks recommend ehiem filters, any particular model for a tank this size? I would like to only run one filter. Any heater suggestions? brand? wattage? Is there a particular...

cool i have been reading and saw flourish mentioned a few times in low tech threads. Any thoughts on the stock #s for this size tank? I'd like to get enough cardinals to display some schooling behavior and a lot of the apistos look good, i hope with many hides and weedy barriers there won't be...

    Returning to the hobby...teach me!!

I have been looking around at co2 equipment and i think for now i would prefer to stay low tech. can ferts just be added to the water? can ferts be useful without co2? can ferts and co2 be used in a sump tank/refugium? not that I am familiar with those either :P

Not real familiar with plant species or the tech required, I know I like the short plants or moss that looks like a manicured lawn, just have to figure out how to do it. Also I found that link http://www.diyaquarist.com/archives/208 I wanna cover this with all green planty goodness

    Returning to the hobby...teach me!!

Thank you Paul for your quick response :) I have always liked discus but in the past avoided them I had heard they are difficult to keep and were always a bit pricey due to limited availability, but my wallet has grown since my register jockey days. I will certainly consider this option but...

    Returning to the hobby...teach me!!

Hi all, As the title indicates I have kept fish before and am giving it another go. I had fish in my teens but unfortunately I was not a responsible keeper, I got fish that got too big for their environments, overstocked, and mixed species that I probably shouldn't have. I always had success...
