After shutting off my aquarium lights this evening and I went to watch to a little tv and after getting up I figure I would sneak a peal into my tank to see what's going on.
I recently added a few small peices of live rock (he purchased some online and threw a few scraps my way) while I...
I have seen ballasts for $30-$40 which handle 220 wats.
Could I swap out my old ballast and and use two of these to creating a new VHO lighting system for my tank? The reason why I would use two is taht Im looking for a total of 440watts to power 4 110 watt bulbs for a FOWLR tank and then...
The canister filter is an eheim 2213 for up to 66g setup and I have a bio wheel pilter for upto 75 gallond setups.
Yes the fish are all in one tank for now, I plan to build an ultimate setup down the road, plans are on hold for now. Either get another tank to seperate some of the ones that...
My brother has a 125g tenecor tank with the filtration built in the back. The tank is up and running and was looking to add a skimmer but none would fit in the back chamber that would be adaquete for his tank.
So he looked into a sump where he could put the skimmer. All the LFS said it...
Once again another post to get people talking.
I know many people keep FW fish from all over the world, which are kept at different temps. What about some SW fish from colder waters? Would this not be feasable because of cloudy conditions or not being able to replicate the environment...
Sorry about the title, just trying to grab some interest. Get a lot of mixed reviews when I ask about UGF and plenums in saltwater setups. Some say the UGF in SW is a out dated? From what I have researched many DIY plenums work very well but really have no idea which would be a better choice...
I think im going to go with 10k/Actinic/10K/Actinic.
This should provide enough light if I decide to keep a couple anemone with the two10k bulbs and enough blue make the tank look good?
Any suggestions on which brand of bulbs to use and how often they should be replaced?
I went ahead and did it. I supported the center in three different spots. The tank is on and filled, with no sign of any excess pressure on the added supports.
I will keep you updated.
I know my first post sounded a little ignorant, but the little maintenece I provide my tank stays extremely clean, except for an occasional algea wipe down. I know that the limeted gravel vacuming has a high risk of stirring up some nasty toxins when I do clean but I figure if my routine works...
all the wood is solid pine. It has four main verticle legs and a center support that doesnt touch the ground, thats why I figured I could stack 2x4 right underneath the center, that way it will have four thick legs and the new wood on the bottom will give more strength to the center peice of wood?
Any ideas for some new additions to my 55g fw tank? The link below has images of the tank as well as some close ups of the fish.
Was looking to add a new fish, any ideas? Also How many more fish can I keep in the tank?
I know its risky but I might have to go ahead with it. Im going to round up some heavy objects and keep them on it overnight. Ill check for any bowing or listen for any little creaks and cracks. I think some supprt wood on the botttom should help out?
I recently put togather a rahter large eight draw dresser and realized it takes up a lot of space in my room. My plan is to move the tank on the dresser and mount the light fixture on a shelf above the tank, the whole setup should look great.
The dresser is solid pine. I plan to put 2x4...
Buddah Red,
If you are looking for an alternative to the regular filter cartridge give this a try:

I use engine block paint, holds up to high heat and grease. Looks awsome, no bubbling, spots, etc...
Have used Chrysler Blue and Chevy blue, the tank in my link below is chevy blue on a 55g fw. It has been on for about ayear and still looks great.
Recently put it on my sw tank and...
Also I have a bio wheel filter that have only had the cartridge changed twice, the filter is all gunked up and the bio wheel doesnt even spin but the water still filters through.
Like I said above, what gets me mad and do understand that it is all a business but some of the maintnence...
