    I think I have ich.....

I tried to take some, but all were blurry! Because the spot is on one of the fins on the side of the fish, it’s always moving. I will try again tomorrow.

    I think I have ich.....

Because I’m not 100% sure it’s ich (so far it’s been just one spot on the fin of a peacock gudgeon), i decided to try a course of Pimafix first. No one in the tank is flashing. Also, I think the fish that had the fry were my panda cories. I’ve saw two survivors this morning. Hope they make it!

    I think I have ich.....

Not rude at all! I appreciate the response. After I posted the thread, I realized that it’s probab a very popular question so I did do a search. I was going to do salt and heat, but I thought you couldn’t use that method with catfish and snails. Either way, I’m not even 100% sure it’s Ich...

    Green Hair Algae

I increased the sunrise and sunset settings to limit the actual “daylight” in the tank to 8 hours so hopefully that will help. I will also try smaller more frequent water changes. Thanks to everyone!

    I think I have ich.....

Only one fish is showing symptoms (1 or 2 specks in his fin). In the tank are (3) Panda Cories, (2) Peacock Gudgeons (which I think just had babies - none survived), (2) Nerite snails and (6) Malaysian Trumpet Snails. What is the best course of action? Is my beneficial bacteria doomed...

    Green Hair Algae

I wanted to start having some success with live plants in my aquarium so I went to my LFS and bought this ridiculously expensive FluvalSmart light. I went in thinking I was buying a bulb and a new lid, and walked out with this bluetooth thing. The guy at the store told me to keep it on for 10...

    Filter Cartridge Cleaning

Thanks everyone! I filled my jug with tap water, treated it with prime and then got as much gunk off of it as I could. It has a plastic frame around it with some black carbon on the inside so I couldn't squeeze it, but I did get a bunch of stuff off. I also put a sponge on my intake filter as...

    Filter Cartridge Cleaning

My filter cartridge is SUPER gunky. How much can I scrub it without harming the beneficial bacteria? Rinsing only will not cut it. When cleaning it, do I use the old tank water or can I use clean (but treated) tap water?

New tank - one month old

The tank was set up on March 21st. The cories went in on March 26th. I used the old filter from the smaller aquarium to help cycle and I made sure my numbers were good before I added the Cories. I also had the LFS test my water the day I went to purchase them. Water params have been great...

New tank - one month old

A month ago I set up a new 20 gallon tank for my betta. I used the filter cartridge from his 5 gallon to help cycle the 20 gallon. Water has been testing great (0-0-5). I still have the old filter cartridge hanging in the new tank. Think it's safe to take it out now? I want to start my 5...

Do Amano Shrimp prefer to be in group?

Thanks for responding! If they don’t care about being in groups, I will leave as-is. Luckily, Bob the Betta is super chill and he pays no attention to his tank mates. I’ve even watched him eat off the same carnivore pellet with the panda cories without issue.

Do Amano Shrimp prefer to be in group?

I have two in my 20 gallon, but wonder if they prefer to be in larger numbers? I had 3, but one didn't make it so I was wondering if I should add another. Other inhabitants are: (1) Nerite Snail (1) Male Betta (5) Panda Cories

    20 gallon too big?

Here is Bob! This was in his previous studio apartment. I haven’t taken any good ones of him in his new abode.

    20 gallon too big?

Bon’s house. P.S. I’m glad you said it. LOL

    20 gallon too big?

It’s been a few weeks now and Bob LOVES his new home and uses every inch of space. He hangs out in caves, swims through hidey-holes, explores caves, disguises himself and hangs out in the floating plant roots and the best of all is he gets along great with the Panda cories and Amano shrimp...

New Panda Cory seems stressed ....

I very much appreciate all the feedback and did not think it was “too bossy”. LOL

New Panda Cory seems stressed ....

Thank you. I’m definitely not adding anything new for a month or two. I want everyone to get settled in. I will also stick to only water changes for now with just my Prime. I appreciate the feedback.

New Panda Cory seems stressed ....

So far everyone still looks good. Would adding Stresscoat help as a preventative?

New Panda Cory seems stressed ....

He didn’t make it. Poor guy. I will have to take a closer look at that medication page and see what my options are that: A). Won’t harm my shrimp and snail B). Won’t harm my beneficial bacteria Sigh. Will the group be ok with 5!or will I eventually need to get another?

New Panda Cory seems stressed ....

I definitely don’t want to harass him, but he’s at an angle now (after the water tumble) where I can’t see if he’s breathing so the nudge would be my “dead or alive” test.
