    GE Silicone 1 FYI

Then buy one that says it does not have mildicides... they are labelled quite clearly.

    New fishkeeper here!

Id agree that some small level of nitrate should be detected if live plants and light stocking are the case. Any established media used when tank was set up?

Undefined coral-like artifact/stone appearing in my tank

Looks like mystery snail clutch thats fallen into water. Mystery snails normally lay clutches out of water.

    New fishkeeper here!

Read the freshwater cycling sticky at the top of thread. Youll need a kit that can test nitrite and nitrates.

    ThriveC + Excel - Redundant? Algae/Diatom issues

Live plants are good for getting rid of excess nitrates. The only tank I have without plants (large cichlid tank) is the only one with diatom issues.

    How to seal bamboo?

Lucky "bamboo" is a nice alternative as posted. Will also absorb some nitrates :)

    ThriveC + Excel - Redundant? Algae/Diatom issues

I do not recommend dosing excel ever. It is a gluteraldyhyde (spelling?). Nasty stuff. You can cut down on nitrates by increasing water change frequency and amount and lowering feeding. Algae can be caused by lights being on to long as well. Thrive does contain nitrates so you could cut back...

    GE Silicone 1 FYI

They say that to cover their arses in case something goes wrong. Liability. 100% pure silicone is 100% pure silicone.

    Aquarium Top

Ahh. I would measure the existing ones from front to back and side to side and look for similar. Alternatively, you could do what I did. Get a small thin pane measured to the right size from a glass shop and put a small stick on knob on the top. Much cheaper.

    Aquarium Top

Oh those , ok. Not sure how those are measured but id assume just measure the inside dimensions of the tank lip and look for something similar. Keeping your filter, heater, air line clearances in mind. Is it the plastic that broke or the glass? You could just go to a glass shop and replace the...

    Aquarium Top

Is it a plastic canopy you want to replace or just a glass top?

    New goldfish tank advice

Welcome! As your research has indicated, an 8 g tank is far to small for a goldfish. A 26-32g tank is also far to small. Common and comet gold fish really shouldnt be kept in aquariums as they grow to large. They will become stunted rather quickly and belong in ponds. Read the sticky on...

40 Gallon Breeder Stocking and Filtration Questions

Beautiful tank! For stocking, should be fine with single gouramie. Youll run into trouble with more then one. Regarding platies, I keep multiple males only together. No issues. Common practice to stop the breeding. Not sure regarding the cherry barbs. They are very peaceful so you may get...

    Fish recommendations

Totally agree, quarantine is super important! Need to protect your existing stock from potential diseases from new comers. As for a center piece, a german blue ram or an apisto would look nice if you didnt want to go with a gouramie. As for upgrading tank, go as big as possible. That way you...

Ammonia Spike In My 55 Gal.

Goldfish are notoriously dirty fish. I would guess the massive bio load the gold fish has added to your tank has caused a mini cycle. Goldfish really arent meant to be kept with tropicals btw, they thrive in cold water. Though by sounds of it you werent planning on getting it.

    Best Guppy Control Fish?

My endlers are the same, colony is quickly taking over the 44g theyre in. Ive started just feeding fry to my severums... may have to just plain separate the males and females soon.
