I notice my beta's are always more active when I keep a female in a separate container but right next to the male's tank.

I've seen that before in mine. The fish looks healthy and I assume is eating. Last time that happened to just used a broad spectrum antibiotic and water changes. That seemed to do the trick.

Thanks that clears my initial question up as well. I'm just trying to find someone who breeds/sells port/black acaras. Its like asking for a unicorn these days.
