Ummm...so I read this before and I tried not to panic but my ADF has been struggling for nearly a week. He's given up staying low and just hides under a surface floating leaf. I've had them do the other type of floating and then they get better and all is well so I assumed that everything...
I have an overstocked 12gallon tank, but I am out of town and can't keep up maintenance for a few days. Is doing daily water changes the only way to keep the ammonia levels down to a decent level for a few days until I can get home and reduce the fish load? My girlfriend is there and can do...
Thanks guys. Maybe I'll send my girlfriend in there to cry. I just can't sneak in the tank. They are being 'kind' to let me have the 12. The pleco I actually plan on sending back to the LFS eventually too, but I was hoping short term he'd get along with everyone. I may be able to pull off...
So I've just moved into a new place, and the new building management won't let me have all the tanks I still have in my old place. I had a 20G and a 29G. My new place will only have a 12 Eclipse. I have a bunch of fish that I'd like to keep but I know they can't all come over. I've already...
so far everyone seems mostly ok. hopefully no one else catches anything and this was just a case of old age. they seem a little bit emotionally scarred but I think they'll get through it. it's strange looking at the tank now though. he was a really big red spot in a very lush green planted...
nice job with the pics. it's rare to see someone get such nice color and focus on tank fish. they move around so much and lighting is often inadequate. you must have good lighting and a pretty nice camera!
so my red rainbow was fine this morning, and now tonight he is upside down on the bottom of my tank. his color is still bright red and i can't see any tumors. however, my ghost shrimps appear to have been chewing on him a bit so he is a bit hacked up. i never noticed any problems with his...

Definately not an SAE. The SAE looks more like a flying fox than a CAE. I am lucky enough to have a local store that thinks they have Foxes, but are really selling SAEs.
do yourself a favor and get a cheap CO2 reactor. I have the nutrafin model (around $20 or so) and it works great in my 29 gallon. in such a small tank like you have, you'd be crazy to get a big $200 setup when such an easy and affordable option is available to you!
Nutrafin CO2...
Like said before, if this tank isn't cycled then you have just thrown a bunch of money away and mistreated a bunch of fish. you've made the right move by coming to these forums. a wealth of knowledge on these pages. unfortunately, you are probably going to see a bunch of fish die before you...
you have a lot of issues here. you need to provide more info about your tank in order for anyone to be able to help. saying one lamp on a 75 gallon doesn't tell us how much 'too much' or too little it is. how many watts is it? did you say it was fluorescent? brown algae is a low light algae...
i had a great hospital tank which had to be taken down because a crack was spreading (acrylic). actually this fish came from that tank a bit earlier than i would have liked to move him into general population.
i wasn't sure if this diamond mark was normal or not as it appeared to turn into...
I have a Killifish that originally had a small little mark on the top of his head. That grew a bit larger before i noticed he had a white growth on his 'back' near his tail. The white growth looked more like 'cotton' fungus than anything else i could find. I treated the tank with PimaFix and...
my understanding of pima and mela fix is that they are mostly vitamins and slightly antibacterial. or atleast that they are beneficial enough in the preventative ways that it can out weigh the risk of the 'resistant diseases'. i use it whenever the fish look like they need a pick me up.
That also sounds a little bit like the Pearl Gourami's breeding ritual. They do this weird embracing thing that looks a bit like fighting...
though i will say that my pair used to fight a little bit and then stopped after a few weeks. now they just hang out.
well they may be underestimates but i think they are fair averages. i doubt an average fish keeper would be able to keep some of these fish as long. let's face it most fish don't have ideal conditions...people move a lot and a lot of people who keep fish are exactly that type...apartment...
