    crayfish

I agree...I have heard horror stories of crayfish clearing out tanks fairly quickly. They can be vicious predators in a peaceful tank...be careful!

    Canabalistic Betta!!!

I agree...tank is way too small for this set-up. I have seen my two Bettas (separate tanks, of course) chase their tankmates and also baby fry, but they have never connected. Personalities are different in fish as well as people...another betta may not be so aggressive towards your...

    Starving Bettas

Try hand feeding defrosted peas without the skin. My small betta was so sad-looking (which is why I bought him), he wouldn't eat for days. He still ignores normal betta food and will only eat from my hand now. He loves his peas and he loves frozen brime shrimp and bloodworms...he even does...

Albino Fry in Tank? ID still unknown!

On Monday, I went to clean the 40G and found only one white baby fry hiding in the plants. Judging from his size, I would think he would be at least 2 weeks old. In May my pineapple swords had babies and those are all grown now and in the tank with the mom. This baby looks like the swordtail...

    Neon Tetra lifespan

I have neon tetras who are going on 3 years old and one of my black tetras is going on 5 years old, so it may be your water unfortunately. Where did you buy them from? I have had better luck buying from local pet stores vs. "the chains". They seem to just have healthier fish!

    Food ?

Warning about BB Gobies I just want to point out (as was pointed out to me on this site earlier this year), Bumblebee Gobies are sold mistakenly as freshwater, but are actually brackish water fish. I have a species tank set up just for them, because they need very specific water conditions...

BBG's, SG 1.002, Refusing anything but live food...

Update: So, my adventure into the brackish tank environment is going well. This morning's readings are at 1.002 SG, PH 7.5, etc.. A few questions: The BBG's are not taking frozen foods as they once did. They eat only live worms and BBS. They are refusing mosquito larvae and the other normal...

    Different Cory Cats...same selling name????

I have spent a few hours on the internet...and here's what I have come up with...the four new cory cats look like they are sail-fin cories and I put the old (8-year old) cory cat in with these when I set up the 40G. As near as I can tell, my old cory cat has no definate breed. He may just...

    Serpae Tetra

I agree...I would tag them as moderately agressive, but only if they are not in a school of 5 or more. Although I have found them to be little terrors on the fins of others..in a school they are very pretty and seem to bother each other more than other fish. My very last serpae lived 6...

    Shrimp in Brackish tank?

Holy cow...it's been awhile since I have logged in! Just as a refresher I am cycling my tank towards 1.005 BW for the gobies and added some "feeder shrimp" to try to even out the bio-system in there. One of the shrimp was carrying shrimp babies and those were quicly eaten by my 7 gobies...

    Waste eating fish?

I agree...there is no "waste eating fish" out there. Catfish eat over-fed foods and sucker fish may clean up certain types of algae, but no one fish I have ever kept has cleaned the tank. You have to take the step towards commitment to keeping your tank clean and doing you water changes...

    Aponogeton bulb question

Wow...I have been waiting for someone else to ask about these bulbs! I have about 2 dozen in my tanks right now and they send up (what I call) "shooters" every couple of days. If you let them be and go to the top of the tank you will have a white or pinkish two-pronged flower (white most...

Who else besides me has anacharis in their tanks?

I agree...that stuff grows like a weed and loves ferts and co2. I keep it in two of my tanks and have sprouts everywhere on those plants. They may grow with low light, but seem to like it at 78 degrees or less. Any higher and they just fall apart and litter the tank. I also read its a...

    Cleaning tips...

Once a month or so, I just unplug the filter (leaving the fiter cartridge) and clean all the tubing and intake with a toothbrush. I alternate and don't change the cartridge if I am cleaning the tubes, etc. You would be amazed at all the stuff that you will clean out...most of it just looks...

    Earthworms?

I have started with mini-red wrigglers bought at the pet store especially for fish and reptiles and I don't really have to "chop them up too much"...they are live and I just take a cleaver and give them a couple of small wacks. Then even the smaller fish can get a bite before the larger fish...

    Shrimp in Brackish tank?

Hum...then I will watch those guys closely. So far, they seem to be doing a crack-up job of cleaning and are very active! The SG is just below 1.0 right now, so I still have a few weeks to go for the full BW effect. One of the shrimp is carrying eggs and it looks like ghost shrimp eggs to...

    Feeding worms to BB Gobies

Actually these were labeled...mini-wrigglers. They are sold in a petstore for fish, not at a bait shop or anything...and I do rinse them well (I don't want the water to be dirty) before they meet their end. Pink/red in color and about a 1/2-inch to an inch long. But if you think about it BB...

    Personality of your fish...

Update on the newest member of my aquatic family...a new male betta named "Bono" (mostly maroon with light blue and white fin tips...very pretty "for a boy"). He wasn't eating...I got him hooked on PEAS after a week of not seeing him eat much! He sits there and waits on the end of the tank...

    Feeding worms to BB Gobies

The original thread was in FW, so I figured you guys may know more about it. Oh, more yuck about the worm factory...thanks FlyFly! I found that with a giant meat cleaver and a chopping block and a shot of liquer (J/K) I can chop and look away at the same time. This worm today was made...

New Tank...Does anyone use Millennium 2000

Very well said...everyone! ^Thanks so much! Honestly, since I didn't reconize the brand name originally I was going to just go out and buy a brand new one, but that would have put me back and when you are starting a "free tank"...$55 is allot of money if you have one that's working...
