My Black Skirt Tetras do the exact thing as well. When the tank lights are off and the room lights are still on, they will tilt their bodies so that the top of the fish is towards the ambient light in the room. They did that from day one when I got them and they been doing that for over 1 year...
Always run an air pump with a check valve so that water can not bes siphoned back, either due to a faulty pump or a power outage. Don' know if this will solve your problem, but in any case, get a check valve if you don't already have one.
Wouldn't you be worried about the glue that they use to put these flowers together (if indeed they use glue) be toxic to your fish? If I were to use fake plants, I normally use the ones that were designed for aquarium use.
I find that as my amano shrimps eat, they poop more often. I don’t think the shrimp’s gastrointestinal tract is as complicated than that of a fish so I don’t think they can overeat and explode! The more they eat, the more they poop.
Yes, my Blackskirts also get very pale when I net them as well. But once they are not stressed, their colours come back. Also, I've read that Blackskirts loose colouration as they get older.
I have one male and one female in my tank. While the female is a bit bigger (rounder and more full-bodied), compared to the male, she's not that much bigger. Both are identical in length. I've had both my cories for almost a year now and seem very healthy (keeps laying eggs). However, my...
I have two Amano shrimps and two Otos mysteriouly died one after the other! Don't know if it was done by the shrimps. My cories are doing well though as well as my tetras.
By the way, are Amano shrimp different from Ghost shrimp? Amano being bigger and have dark spots on their bodies...
Thanks for the suggestion, mooman....the Bolivian Ram is a very good looking fish and I will definitely consider it.
Holly...it's good to know that your BST are peaceful with other types of fish. Mine have only been with the cories and they totally ignore the cories and the cories ignore...
I've got a 21 gallon planted and currently I have 5 Black Skirt Tetras and 2 Cory cats.
I really like to put a couple of Rams in, however, the BST are very nippy and if the Rams are bubble nesting (assuming one male and one female), they'll get too aggressive. Maybe Rams are not the best for...
Yup, better luck next time...and I'll be more prepared next time too. Gotta get some Methyl Blue just in case I see eggs in the future.
But in terms of getting them to spawn, what everyone said in this forum is correct. I did weekly 20% water changes and the water that I put into the tank...
Yes, mine are also slightly green when you look at them in certain angles.
Update: all the uneaten eggs eventually succumbed to fungus (didn't have methylene blue). I'm not all that dissapointed since I am still cycling my new tank and don't have space if I have cory fry anyways.
Cory for me as well...my cories are very fun to watch. I drop an algae tablet on their head and they don't move. But once they smell/sense it, they go crazy!
I kinda agree with cloud, the snout is not as pointy, however, there's a tinge of green when you look at certain angles...so I'm not sure. In any case, they'll be soon enjoying a new home....a new 20 gal tank :)
I actually saw dad eat two eggs right before I removed them from the main tank. However, I think most of the eggs were eaten by the Tetras.
Cool...I look forward to baby cories :dance2:
