    lighting option

Perhaps I didn't explain it well enough. The lights would be no more than say 5 inches above the tank. Enough room for me to open the lid and work in there. No more. With that said, any opinions? Specificly on the bulbs and if they are the same kind of compact fluorescents you would...

    lighting option

You know those twist compact fluorescents sold to save energy that you can screw into standard light sockets? Can you use those as tank lighting? I found a place online that sells 15w 5000k and 25w 6500k bulbs. Can these be used as plant lights? My idea is to attach track lighting to the...

    EMPTY tank any ideas

In my opinion if your not willing to do what ever it takes to provide your fish with a healthy enviroment, you shouldn't own fish. Is not spending £20 worth the lives of your fish? Personally I would spend £20 to not have to see the bodies of my fish resting on the substrate. I would spend...

Found a use for Lemna Minor

Wetman, never noticed my barbs eating it, they could have though. I also keep some of it in my fry tanks for the reason of soaking up nutrients. And yes, I have heard that gold fish will eat it too. Harry, lol yummy, aquatic salad.

    Racking my brain

For the life of me I can't figure out a fish to put in my slowly emptying 46g bow. Moving most of the larger occupants into my 75g. So now I am left with extra space. Maybe someone can think of something I'm not. What I plan on leaving in tank... (it could change a bit but not completely)...

Found a use for Lemna Minor

Wasn't sure where to post this so just going to drop it in General. Not even sure how many will benifit from this, but I can't get the only one with an over abundance of Lemna Minor. I got a couple Lemna Minor plants by accident (kinda) when I got some guppies quite a while back. As the...

    Tiger Barb tankmates

Yup, they whole big secret is keeping a school. Cool secret huh? I got 6 and have kept them with several other kind of fish, but none that didn't have at least some attitude though. Redtail/Rainbow sharks do a good job of putting them in their place. And why would you keep neons with barbs...

Results: Using crushed coral to raise KH/PH

I keep crushed coral in 3 of my FW tanks. A 10g, 46g, and 75g. I have about 15lbs in my 46g and 40lbs in my 75g. Not sure how much in my 10g, probably around 5lbs. My water out of my tap is PH 7.6ish and GH 6deg. I have noticed no diffrence in PH and even can drop about .2 lower than my...

    Angelfish in this setup

Thanks TnC for the move. How you been by the way? :) Tightdog, I haven't had even a hint of disease since I first got my clown loaches, my fish reach sizes larger than expected for aquariums in an abnormally short amount of time, and many are breeding. If that isn't thriving, please let me...

    Angelfish in this setup

I am moving most of my fish out of my 46g and will have quite a bit of room to add more fish. After quite a bit of thinking about what kind of fish to add I finally thought keeping Angels. What will be staying in the tank are 4 gourami and 6 tiger barbs. I know Tiger barbs can be nippy, but...

    African Ropefish Q

I think the biggest lesson to be learned is not to by from Petco. Especially wild caught fish. Imagine the hell a fish goes through being caught, ripped out of your home, stuffed in a bag, shipped across the world only the end up in the hands of the idiots that work at Petco. Couldn't they at...

    Stupid Question....

I have always kept plecos with sand. No problems. Although they sometimes eat some while eating algae disks or whatever, but it comes out with everything else. Chris

New Photo - Fish "Winkies" - Showing off the "naughty bits"

Do Mbuna have egg chutes? The only way I have been able to tell the sex of my labs or zebras are by coloration and behavior and even that is an educated guess untill you see them carrying eggs in their mouths. Chris

    Making a Cave for Fish

I have always used rocks I find around my apartment complex to make caves. I scrub them down then I boil them or if they are too large to boil I pour a couple pots of boiling water over them. If you want you can silicon them togeather to make your cave. I have never needed to though. Good...
