Yes Bill. I found out for sure that it was a form of bladderwort, not an algae but a plant. I'm going to put a huge prune on it, and see if I can't contain it for awhile...if not, I'll remove it.

Thank you Harlock. It IS staghorn algae, so I guess I'll be pulling out as much as I can from the tank this afternoon, and giving the plants that it was attached to a weak bleach bath later in the week. Too bad, it was a cute little plant too.

It was suggested that this might be a variation of bladderwort? But I haven't found any pics of bladderwort that looks quite like this type. :dog:

Good morning; There is something that has sprouted in my work tank, a 10 gallon planted tank with white clouds, mollies, and platys. It looks pretty neat, but if it's something that is not good for the tank, I won't hesitate to yank it out. Can anyone help me ID this please??

Update: The Garden Basics sand sold by Wal Mart is not a silica free sand, nor is it distributed by Old Castle. It is sterilized, but it still contains silicates. This is according to the customer sales administrative assistant for the Southern area of Old Castle. They are no longer...

Schigara? Are you certain that Garden Basics sand is aragonite sand? If so, our Wal Mart has 4 pallets of it right now!!

Thanks Maxi. I tried to make sure that I didn't cover any of the mussels...I'm pretty confident that they're all accounted for and visible.

Ok one more. I got some cut coral on one of the LR pieces, along with some mussels. Looks pretty cool.

Ok, I made a mistake...I got the tank filled before I knew anything about R/O water...did fill it with tap water that we treated to take out chlorine, chemicals, metals, etc, but its' still tap. Now the tank is cycling and a nice ugly brown carpet has formed over one of the LR and the...

Well I fiddled with it for awhile, and actually ended up with a salinity rating of 1.023 I think that's in a good range to start, yes? Put in 21lb of LR last night...clouded the tank a bit, but this morning it's lot less cloudy, and I caught myself staring at the LR for quite a while last...

just a quick thought, but you might want to make sure you have a hydrometer/refractometer, test kit and lighting for the tank. Also, I highly recommend a protein skimmer. Thanks SD, I do have a hydrometer, got that in my first batch of purchases. I'll add the protein skimmer soon after I add...
