The video appears to show some potential issues with how the plants are actually planted. Some of the rooted plants appear too deep. The crown should not be below the gravel, it's often better if you can still see the beginning of the roots.
On the right side you appear to have a crypt in...
I use aquaclear sponges on most of my intakes. Even when not concerned for the inhabitants it makes a good prefilter, keeping plant debris and similar crud from the filter.
:headbang2::headbang2:Very Very Cool!!! :headbang2::headbang2:
Considering the "stink" wouldn't you want to paint all... ahead of setting up any tanks that could be contaminated by the vapors?
If it is a small tank, you may as well tear it down rinse and repeat. If it's a larger tank I would let it continue to cycle a few more days. Mold spores are virtually everywhere, when they land in a suitable enviroment they grow. If you introduced a large amount then the natural cycle will...
This is good.
I don't think many can appreciate the hassle of priming the HOB filters, or that when they upgraded the motors to do away with the lubricating ports it was modern.
I guess that's why priming my fluval doesn't seem to be a hassle.
I have a copy of "Encyclopedia of Tropical...
Agreed, can't pass up free. I like the dimensions of the tank. I once had an acrylic 80 gal that was just as long but slightly taller and wider, about 44cm x 44cm on the ends.
Good luck with the tank and the move.
OK, I should have had more faith that you covered that.
Real time stinks for us with a short attention span! Why can't a build be wrapped up in a 30min HGTV special?
Keep up the great work and feeding us pictures. Many thanks for allowing us to share in this remotely.
From the ad...
"MY WIFE DECIDED TO TELL ME SHE DIDN'T WANT FISH ANYMORE
AFTER I PURCHASED A 5200 DOLLAR CUSTOM FISH TANK..
SHES HAPPY IM HAPPY RIGHT!!!! "
Definitely not a fish addict!
Pete,
I applaud your ambition, determination, etc. Many of us have dreamed of turning a room into a tank but never had the nerve to pull it off.
If I may offer one suggestion; in an earlier part of the thread I believe you may be underestimating the effect of the moisture this monster will...
Having failed before with hillstream loaches in a community tank, a dedicated hillstream biotype tank is on my to-do list. It's my understanding that in addition to the flow and oxygen levels they also like cooler temps and exceptionally good water quality.
Sorry I don't have more pertinant...
Being that the post is old, I think the pertinent question is; did these make it through the winter? Nomad, has your friend been back to this pond in '09?
TookayS2k,
Are you feeding your fish any live foods that can be introducing larvae or eggs? Are you confident that these bugs aren't regularly found around and it's coincidental that they're in the tank?
I have one like that hex, currently not set-up. I got it from the trash, tank only. On mine I filled the odd ends of the top with 1/4" plexiglass and the hood from a 15gal fit the center rectangle very well. Lighting was very low but it worked with some java fern. I had turned it backwards...
It can be fine... until it fails. If a 200W fails "on" it will fataly overheat the tank. Having done this once as a teen, I've favored undersized heaters ever since. I usually go a size smaller than the manufacturer states for tank size. If you only need to heat from room temp 68-70 upto...
It looks to me like something wasn't cleaned well before going into the tank. Either this skull or something else and it settled here, and now it is decaying. I wouldn't worry too much but I'd siphon it out with the next water change.
