Sorry to say he only lived 3 weeks
Sorry to say that the outcome was not good. After I used the needle to pop the bubble, which slowly deflated, I put him back in the tank. He moved around some, but did not seem to eat, even when tempted with his favorite garden kale.
I also did not know...
Has anyone ever fed rose petals (from florist roses) to goldfish? Just wondering, because mine are always hungry for greens and I have access to lots of rose petals.
It's been 2 weeks and he's still alive. Very little movement, and he's not eating as far as I can tell, but he creeps from one side of the tank to the other and sometimes sends out his feelers or siphon.
Great pictures! Congratulations -- I have snail envy. It's been a long time since I had any that young and beautiful! -- BTW my ramshorn grew to 5cm (2") shell over the space of several years.
Update on snail "surgery" for bubble
The first picture was taken just before I lanced the bubble. The second pic was a few hours later (you can see his flesh looks lighter, more yellow.) The last picture is the snail today, resting on the bottom of his tank. I picked him up just a few minutes...
OMG he is still alive. I went to the tank thinking I would have to remove him...he had stayed flacid all evening, started listing to one side while upright in the tank...I went to net him and he pulled all the way in. The most movement I've seen from him since this started.
What do you all...
Okay, I tried it. He may already have been dead, but I thought I felt him barely perceptibly pulling back a little when I tapped his operculum. First I tried gently tapping the bubble/sac, with no result. He didn't react at all when I made the tiny pinprick (I used a beading needle). The...
The bubble seemed to be getting bigger, and he was slipping out of his shell more. I've taken him out again to examine the bubble. It had a small amount of water in it but now that seems to have leaked out. He's less responsive, and his flesh doesn't look good -- it's dark, not yellow.

Sounds like a collapsed lung. Unfortunately it...
Thank you - I took him out and he's breathing but still in the same condition. Will replace him in the tank and hope for the best. I will post the question on the applesnail website but am still waiting for my registration to use the site -- in the meantime I found this...

My apple snail, who I raised from an egg almost 6 years ago, has overnight developed a big air bubble that protrudes from his flesh and will not allow him to go in his shell.
He's NOT dead -- but I'm worried that he soon will be! Can anyone help? Has anyone ever seen this before? Does anyone...
Hi:
I've been keeping small freshwater tropical fish for almost 7 years, but have always had small, heated tanks (3 @10 gal + one 5 gal).
Last fall my kids brought home 3 carnival (feeder) goldfish which I put in an empty 10 gal (without the heater) because I was sure they wouldn't live out...
I have kept freshwater tropical fish and snails for years; now my daughter has informed me she's bringing home a goldfish tomorrow...I have quickly set up a (very) temporary home in an old 10 gal (while I ponder where to put a 55 gal!)
I will of course feed him "regular" food but have read...
I took a big, thick, permanent magic marker and wrote "DID YOU DECHLORINATE?" on the bucket I use to store my fish stuff in...it has saved my fish more than once, because it's always sitting there by the sink when I'm changing the water.

Wouldn't want to forget the ladies.
I've read there were real goldfish heels in the 1970's (somehow I missed that...) but it's all good: these are "faux."
I actually threw out my charcoal filter a couple weeks ago because of reading on these forums that they stop working after a few days...I kept the regular particle-filtering media in place...could that be the problem? Should I put in a new charcoal filter? I will do extra water changes to...
