Higher temps will slow down growth. It may be possible that the heat put it into shock, but it seems more likely to me that it was the combination of that and something else... not enough nutrients or light... how many hours a day do you run the lights and are they on a timer? It should go on...

Minerals should not have any affect on any type of invert, fish, or animal. Only nitrogen can have an adverse effect, and once the tank is cycled properly, that is not much of a concern.

Scientifically speaking, there is only Macro and Micro, no such thing as secondary.

Most likely wendtii, or could be walkeri, becketti, they all more or less look the same. You can't really prune these plants. You can divide it at the rhizome. If you did that, I am sure plenty of people here would be glad to have some.
