    Returning to Planted with Questions

Wow...great link 67...thanks. Hopefully the shipping isn't horrific. I was planning on using BigAls...they have free shipping on orders over $75. That Seachem Matrix looks awesome...and affordable. I was considering using Bio-Bale, but this looks much better. I think I'll use 3l Mech, 3l...

    Plumbing

Hi all, I'm looking to route my canister filter hoses through the bulkheads of my reef ready over flow. The drilled holes are for a 3/4" and 1" bulkheads. I'll need step downs on both sides of each bulkhead. Does anyone know a good way to do this...and on online store where I can buy the parts...

    Driftwood

I have some really nice pieces of driftwood that used to be in a freshwater planted tank. I was considering putting it in a salt water seahorse tank with macro algaes. I think the main concern would be that it could leach tannins into the water making a higher pH harder to obtain. When it was...

67, What do you use for filter media in the 2262...looks like I'm gonna have to spend at least an additional $100 to fill it up. Any recommendations?

Also, I have this weird idea.... Right now my tank has two corner over flows as a part of the reef ready set-up. I'm considering installing power heads at the bottom of each weir with an outlet to the main tank. Then I would fill each weir with bio-balls and top off with some foam. I think I...

    Returning to Planted with Questions

Thanks 67. After reading up for the last 2.5 hrs, I was thinking about the same choices you recommended...2 of the XP3's or 1 2260. I think that having 2 XP3's provide better flow options than the 2260. But I know Eheim quality...and when comparing the cost of both options...they're about the...

    Returning to Planted with Questions

Thanks V, yes...it certainly lightened my wallet...but the experience was something I always wanted...I miss it already and it's only been 3 days. I'm excited to go planted again though. A well scaped planted tank can easily rival a reef in its beauty. I'm actually not leaving SW...

    Returning to Planted with Questions

Thanks for the feedback so far. I saved all 160 lbs of flourite from when the tank was planted before...so I'll be using that for the substrate. I plan on using my existing reef lighting...but replacing the bulbs with 6500K bulbs...I have 2 Ice Cap 660's powering 6 X 60'" T5's for around 600...

    Returning to Planted with Questions

Hi all, I've been away from the planted community for some time. I converted my 150 gallon (5X2X2) planted tank to a salt water reef about 3.5 years ago. It was a great experience, but I am moving, and with that, I had to break down the tank. After I move into my new home, I'm looking to get...

    Best Phosphate Remover

Hi All, So I got a phosphate test kit and tested my water. Well, the scale is supposed to read clear, through darker shades of blue. ...Mine went yellow, whatever that means. I'm going to order a diferent phosphate test kit and figured I'd get some phosphate remover to go with it. I used...

Need advice on a used light set-up

Thanks...I'll be sure to get one's with individual reflectors...The one's I've been looking at have them. So everyone seems to agree that 480watts of T5's will be OK for a 150? Also, Archer...regarding your PAR comparison. What was the wattage of the T5, VHO, and PC in comparison to the 250...

Need advice on a used light set-up

Great, thanks for all of the replies. I think I'm going to plan on the T5's. They seem more efficient and put off less heat. If I end up needing more intensity, then I'll look into squeezing some MH's in there.

Need advice on a used light set-up

Thanks, so the higher the number the better...right? Then the dseeper the light goes the less the par gets. Would a T5 only set-up work in my tank? If wer not talking about watts/gallong anymore...what about this: http://www.maggiesaquariumsupply.com/viewitem.php?it_id=677

Need advice on a used light set-up

OK...I'm about to do some more googling here...but just to throw it out there...what is the PAR scale and what are we looking for in terms of corals?

Need advice on a used light set-up

Also, getting T5's would be an option...but they only go up to 80 watts for 60 inch bulbs. VHO's tack on an extra 60 watts per bulb. It almost seems that VHO's are a thing of the past and that T5's are the lastest and greatest. What are the drawbacks to VHO's? Maybe I've got the wrong impression.

Need advice on a used light set-up

hmmm...how essential are the MH's'. I've been looking at VHO's for about the last hour and a half. I could get six 60 inch X 140 watters for around $600. What is really attracting me to these is that my tank is 5' long...these would fit very well. They would also run cooler and cost less...

Need advice on a used light set-up

Hmmm...electric bill My electric bill sucks as it is...since I live in South TX, the A/C is always on. It's not uncommon to pay 4-500 bucks just to keep the house cool and the lights on in the heat of the summer!!! Our energy folks charged .17kw/hr at one point...CRAZY expensive. It's...

Need advice on a used light set-up

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some input regarding a used lighting set up that a LFS is selling. First off, I'm shopping for my 150...it's dimensions are 5X2X2. I'm really not sure what I'm going to be keeping in it yet...but would like to keep my options open. The salesperson said that...
