All the fish are alive and well, except...

Keep up with the medication. I wonder if it's possible the tank remained infected with fungus from previous bad fish.

Here's a photo of a small albino pair of bristlenoses in my planet tank several year back Jiddle. I don't know if you ever saw them. I ended up selling that tank to a school classroom with them in it. I miss them!

LOL, I had a dream you went back to that fish store can came back with two or three selving units with various tanks, all stocked with fish, even some frogs and newts. And I'm like, "What the heck are you doing?" Then you're all like, "What? They said I could have them!"

Jiddle, are any kuhlis missing from your tank? I think they're safe but we should keep an eye on them anyway. If we have to they can be moved to the ten-gallon until they're bigger.

Pictus catfish grow to around 5" and kuhli loaches 4" They won't at any point be big enough to fit in their mouths.

I have a good idea, why don't we both go back there tomorrow and take the mollies back? I'm not sure why they're telling people ten gallons is OK. Maybe they don't realize they grow. Silly fish store sales people.

I'm concerned about the black mollies because they grow a bit too big for a ten-gallon and your soft acidic water, with tannins from the driftwood, isn't the best for them either. I believe they do best with a pH of 7 and up.

My very first aquarium set up.

It's so pretty! I'm excited for those red-eye swordtails to have babies. I'm a bit worried about the gouramis being over-stocked. That petstore lady was full of it when she told you that 10 full-grown non-dwarf gouramis can go in a 55-gallon with all those other fish. For anyone wondering...

    I'm feeling confused/defeated...

What about two females and one male to spread the aggression? Or do they need more than that?

    I'm feeling confused/defeated...

OK Jiddle, based on your reaction to all the available fish to you, how about this selection? 3 moonlight gouramis (1m 2f) 2 red swordtails (1m 1f) 6 kuhli loaches 2 albino bristlenose plecos (1m 1f) 7 or 8 ghost cats Anybody else, of course feel free to chime in too. :)

Yeah, come right now. These places are more mom-and-pop-type places so they close around 5 or 6.

Sorry that's what I mean't, the pearl gourami. It doesn't grow as big and aggressive.

There's three fish stores between Netwon and Scott Road that we might want to check out. They were closed last night so I didn't mention them. I know at least two of them have nice gouramis. It's good to know which store you're going to buy what fish at when the big day arrives. You should drive...

    I'm feeling confused/defeated...

If you want a couple nice large display fish, as you had invisioned, I think you should pick angels. They're relatively intelligent and personable fish (as most cichlids are) and you can count on them to be up and out in the open on display. I haven't had gouramis since I was a teenager but if I...

Jiddle, as your friend, and someone who knows a decent amount about fish, this is my vote... 55-gallon 2 angel fish 7 ghost glass cats 2 albino bristlenose plecos 6 kuhli loaches 2 moonlight gouramis 10-gallon 1 male betta 2 dwarf aquatic frogs

What are some interesting/pretty large freshwater fish?

OK, keeping in mind everything grows, how about this Jiddle... - 2 paired discus - 10 to 15 cardinal or neon tetras - 6 kuhli loaches - an albino bristlenose pleco or two - and a few hatchet fish - maybe some glass ghost cats (since they're on your 'must have' list) ???

What are some interesting/pretty large freshwater fish?

What about a different kind of gourami that doesn't grow as big? Clown loaches take a long time to grow, do they not? I wonder how long it would take them to get to a foot. Anyway, how about just a group of the kuhli loaches instead?

My very first aquarium set up.

It will happen soon, my dear. Thanks to all the bio we added from other tanks, ammonia's already being converted to nitrite, and we're just waiting for a sign now the nitrite's being converted to nitrate. Once ammonia and nitrites are zero we'll do a huge water change to get rid of all that...

    Stability???

I only have SW unfortunately. We found out today their neighbor has three FW tanks with filters he never cleans, so that should be great. I'm going over there tonight to help.
