    Portable plastered polystyrene pond projects

I finally finished the latest pond, no thanks to the worse summer I can remember. Sorry but I did a poor job at documenting the process. I used some old wire spools as feet. I cut a bottom drain into the foam that leads to a filter and then into an overflow and drainpipe. I can isolate the...

Please help me with my neighbors pond

It might be helpful to vacuum the gunk off the bottom if there is a lot built up. Also 1 post since 2007 is pretty crazy:jaw:

    saltwater viv construction log

yep still running. I've made plans for making a new tank but haven't found the time to make it. The crab is growing much slower than I thought it would, so there isn't much of a rush.

Hair Algae in 2 month old pond

rosy barbs eat hair algae? you should try adding them to the pond. I've kept them in a pond outside from spring-autumn, they are really easy to catch when it starts getting too cold because they start swimming real slow. Got to keep them inside over winter though.

Hair Algae in 2 month old pond

What plants do you have growing in the pond? And what is the ph? I've had problems with hair algae when the ph has been too high.

    Portable plastered polystyrene pond projects

Hi yeah that patio pond/vertical garden was pretty difficult to make. I made it at the same time and same way as I made the first pond in the thread. The next bigger one I'm making should be a lot easier to make. I'll try and take pictures of the different stages of the build. Its pretty...

    Portable plastered polystyrene pond projects

I'v started to make another pond thats a cross between the little patio-pond/vertical garden and my most recent one. I'm going to make it like the latest one but with a 1200mmx1200mm living wall attached to the back. Its also going to have a built in filter system that is stalling the build as I...

    Portable plastered polystyrene pond projects

Updates.. I replaced the foam with acrylic felt because the foam started to break down in the sun. I planted a mixture of plants to see what would grow- There is a paradise fish and a couple of baby goldfish in there. Not enough fish to produce much fertilizer so the plants are growing very...

Does a pond need a filter? How do you cycle ponds?

I've kept a few small above ground ponds that don't have pumps or filters. I maintain them by keeping them lightly stocked, well planted, doing regular water changes(I use the water to water gardens) and regularly removing any organic gunk the settles on the bottom. I would never have gravel or...

using expanded metal in bog filter

In my opinion its best to use the lightest weight media possible. The best stuff I've used is pumice gravel. The reason being that its as good at catching debris as lava rock or pea gravel, but it's much lighter and better at releasing it when you want to clean it. As for expanded metal, I...

    Newbie question

I don't really know what could be be causing the smell sorry. I've had quiet a few paludariums, most without filters, but I've never had any odour problems. Syphoning the water with an airline tube works ok, albeit a bit slow.

    Newbie question

Sorry about answering a question with a question, but how did you set up your paludarium? What sort of substrate did you use for the land and water sections? How did you drain the water from under the substrate? I'm guessing that you used an organic substrate that got waterlogged and went...
