I too wanted a black intake on my tanks as they all have black backgrounds i thought it would make it look a little cleaner...I took some 220 grit sand paper and scuffed the tube and strainer lightly just to make the paint adhere better. I used the cheapest can of spray paint they sell at...
I now use Filstar XP3s exclusivly and they are by far the best investments ive made in this hobby! Cheap, reliable, quiet, and a real bargain at 89 bucks. I bought all 3 of mine from FosterSmith..good service and quick shipping!
I too use the slate method...well actually its black, flat flagstone but it looks and feels exactly like slate...anyways, some of the rocks in my tank weigh upwards of 25-30 pounds each so i put the flat peices in, placed the big rocks in, then covered the flagstone with sand and you cant even...
Using a peice of glass or acrylic and put it where the spilway goes into your tank in such a way that it doesnt let the water agitate the surface..i really wouldnt worry about it too much though..i used an AC500 on a planted 55 and it didnt move the plants around very much at all with minimal...
Aquarays are only different in spectrum...i like the fresh/saltwater series ones better as i think the color looks much better than the fresh only(much less yellow)
GE 100% Silicone #1(i think thats the stuff) will fix just about anything wrong with a fishtank when it comes to leaks, bonding glass etc. You would be surprized how strong the stuff is when properly set up. When repairing panels, or leaks i take a sharp razorblade and scrape all the old...
Hmm...sunsets...fishtanks....sunsets...fish tanks. I think theres only a slight difference there?? I personally think yellowish lights look tacky and very unnatural(might as well just put incandecents in there)
If your bio filtration is established well, you shouldnt have a problem. I added 7 fish to my community tank(100 gallon) at once after it had been running for about 9 months and didnt see an increase in anything but my viewing pleasure
Are you talking about decoration or using them as bioballs?? Either way, they should be perfectly fine...just rinse them off well and throw em in. I use them along with plastic army men in my XP3 for bio filtration instead of bioballs...works just as well and didnt cost me a cent...too bad the...
The eheims are great but for the money i dont think you can beat the XP3...their SUPER simple to clean and everything comes out in nice, neat baskets...their quiet, and so far have been extremely reliable. I have no doubt in my mind that the eheims work great, but i would much rather pay less...
Personally i see no difference in the two...as long is it give bacteria something to cling too it will work...get whatevers cheapest
And for what its worth, ive seen people throw legos, plastic army men, cut up hose, etc in there and its worked just fine!
I use an Aqua clear 300 in conjunction with a XP3 on my 55 with excellent results. Heres what i would do...ditch your undergravel filter and use your fluval for bio and mech filtration. Use your AC500 for just strictly mechanical(it will do a bit of bio once the crud builds up too). I use...
I normally throw a slice or two of zucunni/cucumber in after the lights go out so that my pleco can get some...otherwise my mbuna just eat it all within mins.
Mine did the same thing...heres what i did to fix it. Turns out the seal on the lid was dry and needed a little lube, so i took it out and massaged a little vasaline into the o-ring and reinstalled it...no more air bubbles and no more sounds and works perfectly. I too would recomend a second...
