not to be a party pooper, but ottos are not for a new tank. they need the algae that you only get in an established tank and even worse, they can be hard to keep alive for the first couple of weeks. Unless you can find captive bred ones.

Powerheads make for a lot ( how much depends on the size of tank & powerhead) of current in a tank. Plants, in my limited experience don't do well with a lot of current.

My rainbowfish has had a tumor on his side for the last 7 months. Its ugly, but doesn't seem to be growing and it doesn't bother him. Until it does, I see no reason to take action. Like everyone else, once he starts to decline I will sadly euthanize him. I use the freezer method.
