    Goldfish control

I'm not sure what's native AND big enough to eat a goldfish yet not too big for your enclosure. I know snakeheads, though non-native, are abundant down there and could do that job, but it's illegal to keep them here, so I figure the same with you guys. Here's a list of FW fish found in the...

    disappearing aquarium supply?

We only have 2 LFS, one SW, one FW, owned by the same guy. The FW is brand new and the guy has a good heart with a lot of knowledge. Otherwise, it's 30 minutes to the next closest, and then an hour to a bunch in New Orleans.

    Goldfish control

I'm surprised the raccoons/possums/feral cats don't keep them in check. That's my biggest fear about having a pond actually- that I'd get some real nice koi and have the critters here eat them. I don't know how much you could do. Get some turtles to help eat them, though with it being Florida...

    My foster dog *pic heavy*

What a sweet baby. She's so precious. I'd have her spayed if she isn't already. She's a beautiful dog, and that'd tempt people to breed her. I'd get sick of those kind of messages too. I found an elderly dachshund and posted a FOUND ad on craigslist. Found his owner 3 days later. She described...

    subtrate

Definitely agree with a fine particle substrate that isn't jagged. My peacock juvie sifts through the sand, by taking a mouthful of it and then it appears to let it fall out her gills. She accidentally gets a piece of pea gravel in there with the sand, but just spits the rock out once she...

    Sand as Substrant...Disapointed

I had the same issue when I first put sand in my tank. The only thing I have for bottom dwelling are two baby (were 1in when I got them) Golden Blackeyed Bristlenose Plecs and they even don't stay on the bottom. They rather be fixed to the driftwood which gives them easy cover from the larger...

    Guppy science fair project?

Not if you want them to grow fast. My guppies grew best around 76-78, this link http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile15.html states 64-84 degF as an acceptable range, but I wouldn't go below 70, personally. No intentions on sharing the variables, eh?

    House cow

I love his color! So cute. Yea, I think I'm saying no to beef from now on. *stocks up on the tofu* He's too cute to eat!

    Guppy science fair project?

You could make some DIY sponge filters and cycle the tanks to make the fish a little happier. An air pump could have split lines to service multiple tanks. My pump says that it can handle up to 10 different bubbling items, so you might want to look into a pump. That's a cheaper alternative thank...

    a couple of questions???(pic Heavy)

:iagree: Definitely not sailfin, that back fin definitely looks lyre-shaped. Mollies are like guppies in that they breed like crazy. Mollies can give birth up to 3 times (according to stuff I've read) with only one genetic donation from a male. Guppies are similar in the sperm storing ability...

    BN pleco mouth deformed

I wish I could help. =/ I just got my L144s about a week and a half ago, and growing like wildfire. I swear they've grown about half an inch since I got them. They are 1.5" now. I haven't noticed this in mine, but I'm following the thread.

Should I test the pH and hardness of my tap water before making my fish "wish list"?

Definitely a good idea. Most fish will adapt to a less than ideal pH, but it is definitely easier to get a species of fish that naturally likes your ph and hardness. Makes things much easier when it comes to trying to get them to spawn, or water changes to ensure a lower risk of a pH shock. Some...

    glass vs acrylic tanks

I think glass because they last just about forever in my experiences. I have a glass 10g that's 20 years old and looks fine, in comparison to my 4 year old acrylic that is scratched to heck and back. Glass may be heavier, but it lasts.

    Breeding Tetras - Seeking Advice/Experiences

Glad I found this thread. Definitely following from now on. I picked up some long finned serpae tetras a couple of months ago, and after admiring them as they've grown, I'm hoping to have the challenge of spawning them. Going to have a few more months before I'm sure that they are sexually mature.
