    wow Petsmart...

I used to work at a lfs in my area that is pretty good about only selling fish to folks that will take good care of them. They refuse to sell fish if they know that the fish is going to unhealthy conditions. While I worked there, I came to some conclusions... Once someone tells a person that...

    2 electic yellow questions

Your fish looks to me like a juvenile yellow lab. It is losing its color because it is stressed out. Liv2padl is on the right track. If you want a breeding colony, then it is recommended 3-5 females per 1 male. However if you are just interested in keeping beautiful fish, then several males...

Woot, Convict male is a daddy.

Hikari First Bites are great. I've used them and actually seen the fry eating it. They are pretty widely distributed as well. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding the food.

    Tips

Once lobsters, crabs, and crawfish get any size on them, they will attempt to eat their tankmates. If you put one in and start missing fish, you may find that the lobster is to blame.

    New Tank

Once jags reach maturity, they are renowned for being real bullies. Just keep in mind that you'll have two really big fish that will need to be moved if you have any trouble. I agree that you had better have a huge tank to put them all in as well. For oscars alone at least 55 gallons is...

Please help ID this fish for me....

Face looks like auratus. Maybe its stressed and hasn't colored up for you yet? The face shape is off for it to be a krib. I'd say apisto is another really good option. That would explain why the yellows don't seem as bright as an auratus. Edit: If it is an auratus or an apisto it will...

Are angelfish more prone to fin rot than other fish?

Water quality, water quality, water quality Angels aren't any more prone than any other fish to it.

I fell like everything in my tank is wrong...

There's nothing wrong with blood parrots if you're not against hybrids. Their bioload tends to be a bit high, but most big cichlids have the same problem. I agree about getting rid of the bala shark. Edit: I also recommend getting her a tank of her own. Since she loves that bps and you...

Whats an easy to care for cichlid?

I think that part of the problem here is that some extreme views about fish keeping have changed your mind. I don't take the same views as some of the other people that posted here do. Here's my take on things... Just a couple of things that I want to address: Not all cichlids are so...

    Moving on to Cichlids

Demasoni will move gravel or coral. They pick it up piece by piece and put it where they want it. I enjoy watching them excavate the gravel in my tank. Demasoni females are almost identical in coloration to the males. In fact, even the most experienced keepers/breeders of demasoni can't...

    white cichlid

Sometimes in albino strains there will be non-albinos. Some may be ocular albinos which are fish with non-albino body coloration but red eyes. Some may be false albinos which are fish with all white bodies but normal pigmented fish eyes. I hope that this information helps you figure out...

Malawi bloat not just for malawis?

Guess not. No worries...I guess it's not the most interesting topic.

    African cichlids and other fish

To reduce aggression and to get the Africans out swimming in the open more you need to overcrowd them a little bit. Otherwise when they reach maturity, you will find the dominant male killing of tankmates...especially if there are females present. I know from personal experience. I had 6 in a...

Malawi bloat not just for malawis?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Is 10 african cichlids in a 29gal over stocking?

Personally, I wouldn't put more than one African in anything less than a 30 gallon. And then I'd overstock the 30 to reduce aggression (maybe 6-8). Depends on the kind of Africans, though. If you have shell dwellers or dwarf cichlids, you would still be overstocked, but I don't think that you...

    My cichlid died?

Need more info. Is this the only fish in the tank or are there other Africans in with it? If there are other Africans in the tank, they may have killed them. How long have you had these fish? Sometimes it can take up to 3 weeks to see signs of illness from new acquisitions which is why it...

Whats an easy to care for cichlid?

I forgot to recommend a fish in my last thread! I'd say go with a shell dwelling species of African cichlid. They're small and they are very prolific. Parents and older generations of fry will raise the younger generations, in some species. They tend to do better in smaller tanks, as well.

Whats an easy to care for cichlid?

The key thing to remember with African cichlids is that they need clean water. It is so important that you clean the tank using a gravel vacuum at least once a week. If they don't get clean water, it can lead to diseases like popeye which can be hard to treat if you don't maintain good water...

Can you tell me what kind of fish I have?

I'm sorry, but I and 100% of the people that I have talked to in the last week disagree. Thank you for your input, though.
