Thanks X. No, the turf algae is a short leaf, fuzz. Almost impossible to scrape off and my tangs pick at it constantly with little result. Only thing that's even touched it are my urchins and Mexican Turbos. I think it's a direct result of my lack of skills, lol. Other folks don't have this...
O.k., this is around the one year anniversary for this tank. I'm fighting some red turf algae and valonia. The corals are growing, however and the fish are happy. I use the Bacter7 and vodka regime and have since incorporated an ETSS 1400 with Iwaki 100rlt. I also have the etss 800 w/Iwaki...
I ended up going with a Tunze flow system instead of a closed loop. I have:
6125 constant flow
6100 attached to a 7095 controller
6200 attached to the same 7095 controller on the other side
6100 attached to a single controller.
Not too sure how to work this out, but I would...
I'll try to take some today. My photo skills are embarrassing so I'm going to take my time and give something you can actually see. Thanks for asking.
Tom
I'm using a ETSS 800 with an Iwaki 55rlt. I'm thinking it might be too small, but I have to re-stock the fund before I do anything. Works like a horse, but I might have too much bioload for it.
Hey reefbum,
Thanks and I'm only dosing kalk through a kent aquadoser and IV line 24/7. I do 2 week 40gallon water changes with Oceanic. I'm trying to keep things simple. I know my growth would be better with a CR and all the fixin's, but that's more things to go wrong, with my luck.
Tom
Beautiful setup and very interesting tank. I could look at that thing for hours. Good luck on your repair and re-do. Please post After-do pictures. I'm sure it will be first class.
Great job,
Tom
Update as of yesterday
Well, some updated pics of the 135. Not good closeups, but some pics none the less.
These weren't photoshopped (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I did take these with just the VHO actinics on and the flash on the camera. I need a class in...
When I used acrylic for my baffles, 3 different sumps, I had no issues with GE 1 silicone coming apart or leaking between sections. One sump lasted 10 years without incident. I use glass now because...I have no idea. I just like it.
I've had to euthanize a fish. A yellow tang. Wasn't a great moment in my hobby career. I put it in the freezer, following some instructions I found on the net for a humane way to put one out of it's misery. I put him in tank water and then in the freezer. Not sure if it was painless, but...
