Guppies always dying and general question!

Thank you all for your replies, my parameters are in order and all the other fish are doing fine. I think it must be due to the shape of the guppies I get them in, the shock of well aged water is most likely too much for them. I will try to introduce them over 3 to 4 hours always adding around...

Guppies always dying and general question!

My problem is as follows, over the last couple of years I have had many different types of fish and strangely enough the only fish I have really had trouble with were and are Guppies. They always start off well and then get the shimmies and slowly begin to die, medication never helps. Bettas no...

    10g planted "death tank"

Maybe do one vac and then leave it be! THis is only my opinion and I am sure others would differ, but in any case this is how I would face the situation, even if the temptation to get new fish is pretty strong!

    10g planted "death tank"

I would give the tank two or three weeks time fishless while adding something everyday to keep the cycles running such as fish food or ammonia, maybe up the temperature a bit, continuing weekly water changes. This might get rid of some of the parasites that may be present in the water (no host...

    Wood

From my experience I would say no to using any wood you found anywhere else than wood specialised for aquariums. The reasons are many for example, soil conditions absorbed in the wood (maybe far too acidic), the type of tree may contain poisons to certain or all of the fish accustomed to other...

    Constipated betta?

Treatment sounds all right for now, remember that a Bett has very small stomach and if it balloons out they have had more than enough! Good luck!

    Poor Betta!

Well during one of my many sojourns to one of our local fish shops I noticed a Betta swimming alone in a tank full of Phantom Tetras. It was absolutely horrible, they were attacking him one after another tearing little bits out of his fins. Poor thing had no place to go, wave after wave, hitting...

    Learned a lot this year!

Well it has been some months since I posted last and I must admit I went through the school of hard knocks finding out the ups and downs of this fascinating hobby! I tried different types of fish, normal sized and small tanks, filterless and unheated tanks, different plants, different foods...

    Finally fry!

As some of you know I had a batch of Betta fry a few months ago, totalling 14 fish. I then bought a new tank to which I added 3 of the young females as well as one male! I added my 4 guppy juveniles and a few young Platys. I purchased and was given a few other various Guppies and Platys to...

    Betta Gurus help apriciated

I have my male Betta is in a tank with Rasboras, Guppies and Platies without any problems. As stated before, it will only be a problem if the Betta mistakes any other fish as another male Betta. Mine has not touched the male Guppies, since they get out of his way. Two points to consider however...

    Unidentified disease - tumor? parasite?

Very bizarre, I also tip on benign tumor (after a little research), will not stop growing and cannot be removed. I agree with the others, add bact to main tank but if it impedes the fish in any way, put it to rest as gently as possible. Good luck!

    life span of guppies

If they are happy and healthy, temperature, feeding and all, 2 to 3 years is about right!
