Nylon Pot Scrubbies I believe I saw a comparative chart in MonsterFishKeepers that says nylon pot scrubbies (they look like steel wool made of nylon) have the greatest surface area for bacteria to colonize, hundreds of times greater than Bio balls or Bio cubes. And they're very cheap.

I have a 30"x18" office tank I have a livebearer tank in the office with 10 guppies, 10 platies, 8 swordtails, plus a cobalt gourami and 5 albino corys. I use white sand as substrate, with an overhead canister as filter.:dance2:

I use 1" styro on all my 10 tanks for that same reason, to negate the effect of any small irregularities in the stand, be it wood or metal.

Bare is best, but the sand is there and I don't like to store it. However, I read somewhere that sand interferes with arowana respiration. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Yup, I know how large they grow. It's just temporary (12 to 18 mos.), then I'll transfer him to an 8'x8'4' plywood tank.
