Dwarf gouramis honestly just tend to have problems. This sort of thing happened with my first male and then recently, my female who was over a year old, suddenly died for no reason... I don't think they live very long. I had no water quality problems both times... not sure what's up with that...

Yea, you should get rid of the SDs, everyone here is saying that for a reason... their "personalities" don't have anything to do with whether they'll eat small fish or ruin plants etc... also, you'll need to do a water change every week, certainly not every 2-3
