Keep water temps stable. I had aquarium in garage, fish would act really weird at low temps. For tank that old, nitrites should always be zero. Do you keep any media away from tap water while doing cleanings? And is tap water treated before doing water changes?
In my opinion, I wouldn't by anything "quick". Best option is to grab media from filter from established aquarium. Whatever bioload that media was filtering, add to your aquarium. Now you have a cycle that's started. I could never let my tank sit empty for a month.
I may offer servicing the aquarium and donate my old 55. Take a few hours off work and teach the kids, and teachers lol, how to manage aquarium and study fish species. Start another generation of aquarist. And give me another tank to enjoy :)
Long story short, my son's day care has a few small glass aquariums setup. Anywhere from 1 to 2.5 gallons non filtered. Few have Bettas; which are doing OK. The fish live. But in one tank they keep gold fish. I'm pretty sure it's new fish each week. Today I had to tell my son the dead fish...
If I'm having troubles getting mollies to birth young, I may add salt.
Then also to combat ich. That takes constant monitoring as to quickly get rid of it higher temps are needed.
Other than that, I don't see the point in adding it. If you don't have a reason, don't add it.
Thanks. Some of the plants and rooting well and others look to be struggling a bit.
The price I think was a steel. Im hoping someone will buy the stand from me. Glad I built my own. First time I turned pumps on, a few gallons of water came gushing out everywhere. I'm sure the original stand...
I went with mollies gourami for my knew 125 for all the things you mentioned. I can get tons of color, activity, shapes and sizes. I have kids that are also audience, so they had some influence on decision. This is also my first planted tank attempt, so I also didn't want to have a fiasco on my...
So, still doing planted. But after tons of research on angels, I decided on a more community tank. Really want lots of fish instead of just a few of a species. Picked up a variety of mollies today.
Lights for plants should be in today. Plants should be in on Wednesday :).
Once I figure out...
Lol, I think so too freshy.
Figured now that I don't need to rely on rocks to hold the wood down, it would be easy enough to adjust. Still lots of fine sand I need to vacuum out.
I think it will look good once plants are established. Have two finnex planted 24/7 one the way. Went with two 48".
