I would try to syphon out as much of the glass slivers before even disturbing the substrate to scoop it out.... as to prevent you getting glass in your hands or leaving any slivers behind.

I have some trouble keeping my Hemianthus callitrichoides down on the substrate. Almost every morning there is some floating that my pleco has knocked loose. It seems the root systems are very shallow, which is to be expected for such a small plant I guess. Anyone have experience with this...

The shrimp tank is 10g. There is some java moss on the bottom but the majority of that jungle is guppy grass. :)
