I just started a 5 day treatment of LifeGuard disolvable tablets in my 10 gallon tank for 3 of 6 Tiger Barb fish which have red blotches on their sides.
Should I remove the live plants and put them in my other fishtank until the 5 day treatment is over? Will the medication kill the live plants?
I don't have a digital camera unfortunately so I won't be able to post a pic of the 3 Tiger Barbs. But..I just decided earlier after I posted this, to treat the 10 gallon tank with 5 tablets of LifeGuard All In One anti-biotic, because that would treat the open wound if it is not septisemia.
I...
I noticed this morning that three of my Tiger Barb fish in my 10 gallon tank have what appear to be a single red blotch on their scales. I have 6 Tiger Barb fish altogether.
Is the red blotch from fighting (i.e. blood) or is it a type of rot (tail or fin) b/c the red blotches are either near...
I bought a black mystery snail two days ago and put it in the community tank of my 28 gallon. I have one other ivory mystery snail that is just thriving but I'm worried that my black mystery snail is sick. It hasn't eaten anything since I put it in the tank, and crawled to the left back corner...
Do you think a gravel substrate is okay for the Tiger Barbs? That's all I have in my 10 gallon. I was reading online that they like to dig in the sand so I hope they don't try to dig through the gravel in their tank right now.
Also, I seriously hope they won't go stir crazy in the 10 gallon...
Hi. I already have a 28 gallon tank filled with Mickey Mouse platies, catfish, an ivory mystery snail and some sunburst platies along with three week old Mickey Mouse platy fry.
I decided to buy 4 Tiger Barb fish today, thinking I would settle them in my 10 gallon tank first, then eventually...
Cool. My only concern is, will I spend a lot of time using a net to grab bits of plant and food and fish waste since I'll have the filter covered in the sponge now? Will I have to do more frequent water changes too? Oi vay.
Thanks Nolapete. You and Mgamer were really helpful. I checked the fry before I shut off the lights tonight and I could actually see more of them -- in the second hornwort plant I put in the tank today. Not only does it look great, but hopefully in three months, those little fry will be big...
I don't understand. This is what my filter looks like. Very different from the photos you show here.
The aqua clear filter is very different that the two photos you posted above:
Is the bottom of the filter in this photo, the intake? So what do I do with that piece of sponge in...
aqua clear old filter as platy fry buffer...but how?
I stink at spacial reasoning so I can't visualize what you mean here. When you say piece, how large? When you say put a slot in one end, huh? It's Greek to me. Can you explain it better? Maybe b/c Im a woman (Yeah, had to pull the woman...
now my filter is acting up with the nylon on it
I have a 30 gallon aqua clear filter that I stretched a piece of panty-hose nylon to the end of with rubberbands to ensure that the platy fry I have won't get sucked up into the filter. But the darn thing won't let water through for circulation at...
Hi all.
Four days ago I noticed about 10 tiny platy fry hiding in the hornwort plant in my 28 gallon freshwater tank.
Here's what I've done so far but if anyone has any good advice, please let me know:
Put a bit of nylon over the bottom of my powerfilter with rubberband to ensure the...
I tested the tap water with the master freshwater kit and it showed really high ammonia and chloramine and chlorine levels which is why I buy the reverse osmosis drinking water in three 3 gallon jugs for small water changes.
I probably should not have thrown out the sponge media but it was...
The test kit I have is the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Master Freshwater kit with vials and bottles for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH testing.
The ammonia reading is zero.
The nitrate is 2.0. The nitrite is 0.050 based on that test kit results.
How often will I have to replace the sponge...
Ok. I'll do a 50% water change...that's 14 gallons. Do I need to take the fish and snail out for a 50% water change or can I leave them in the tank?
My tap water in my city is full of ammonia (1.5) chloramine, chlorine and other crap which is why I didnt think of using that water. Plus its...
I cycled with the zebra danios then later added the other fish after the ammonia levels dropped to zero.
The water I use is spring water from the grocery store - I buy it in the 10 gallon jugs - so I don't use declorinator.
The only chemicals I've used have been:
Amquel - to lower...
I've had my 28 gallon set up for 4 weeks now with 3 zebra danios, 3 mickey platies, 3 catfish and 1 ivory snail with 3 java fern live plants. The ammonia levels have dropped last week to zero but the nitrate level is 2.0 and nitrite is 0.50.
What I am concerned about is the white foamy water...
