It caught my eye today (& my kids!) and I immediately knew they were hatching Killies! I think it's kindof great, should get lots more people & kids interested in the hobby and maybe bring more attention to Killies and make them more common in the hobby? I know the usual objections, people...
I didn't actually see him do it, course, I never actually SAW him at all, once I let him out of the bag, but I did lose several small gobies - that slept in the sand - before I decided to take my tank apart, catch the lobster & take him in to my LFS for credit.
Thanks FWF! Do you happen to have a link directly to your 10g?
picked up a few new friends yesterday! Got a Randall's Goby, Tail Spot Blenny, Starry Blenny & a pistol shrimp! In the store, the Randall's Goby & the pistol shrimp were hanging out together. I put them in the tank in the same...
I am trying to decide which fixture I want. Either one will end up costing me about the same price. I really like the features the Aquaticlife fixture comes with - built in timer, LEDs, plus it says it has individual reflectors. So, is the Tek light really that much better that I should choose...
the one you see as my avatar was out in top of the substrate and in full view under a metal halide light. I basically had it trained to open when I turned on the lights in anticipation of food. I'd feed the fish first so the food in the water would get it all open and then I'd target feed the...
no need to move the blenny, unless you just want to. You can take a 2 litter bottle and cut the bottom off, sit this over the sun coral at feeding time and it will keep the thieves away. :-)
oh & I almost forgot to show the screen top my hubby built for me!
That light and glass are gone now and I have decided I want to redo the screen so it's in 2 sections so the front half can be removed easily for tank access. We will probably do that next weekend.
Friday night, I added in my first fishy friend! He is a beautiful golden midas blenny. His body is varying shades of pink blended in with the gold and he's got the bright blue rimmed eyes and a cute little smiley face. He is eating well and appears curious, but still hiding out at the top of...
Wow! Very cool CPD! Love the puffer & Fuzzy! What did you name the Puffer? Puffy? P Diddy? Fluffy? Spike? And the eel? What's his name? So now, you can't keep any inverts for cleanup crew right? So what do you do to keep things clean in there? Do you have to syphon?
Really sorry to hear...
So, I now have the DSB of my dreams! Today I went to the LFS and picked up 1 40lb bag of seaflor aragonite and 1 40lb bag of live sand. I also went in Petco tonight (boredom & kids off to gymnastics, & it's open later than all the LFS!) So at Petco, I found the Ocean Direct or whatever brand...
that's the thing, I couldn't find an exp. date anywhere on the package or inside. I will look again, but it's no big deal, I bought a new kit anyway. I want to do a big water change tomorrow and then I'll start testing. Thanks!
thanks guys! It's hard being patient! I want to see a fish in there SO BAD! I still need to work out what to do to prevent jumpers. Any suggestions? I used egg crate in the past, but I still lost an awesome fish thru a small gap at the back of the tank. Obviously I want something that won't...
I love this board, so I'm starting up my new tank diary here! I took a little over a year off from the hobby to have my baby girl. Now that my little angel is almost a year old, I've been getting antsy for the last several months, wanting a tank again and missing my fishy friends. Hubby...
well, I had a feeling it probably wasn't the best idea, so I went ahead and bought a new kit. Now I'll use both and compare the results! Just for curiosity sake. ;-)
if you're going to be buying distilled water anyway, why not just go ahead and buy your saltwater from your LFS? Most of them offer that for around $1 per gallon and you can buy a 5 gallon jug or bucket from them cheaply and then just bring it in each time you need a refill. Most of them will...
