Hi
I hope to sep up a tank for Crystal Red Shrimp, with some small and/or strictly vegetarian fish to accompany them. Which fish species are both ornamental and do not pose a significant threat to CRS (including babies)?
Thanks :)
No, that's the strange thing. I would say that the algae has been increasing over several months. A series of large water changes may help? I am still puzzled about the water chemistry of this though. I've had this tank running for about 2.5 years with only modest amounts of algae until now.
I have an outdoor tank with a low population of small fish. It's never had an algae problem before (2+ years), but over the past few months it's been growing increasing quantities of lovely healthy green thread algae. It's everywhere, choking the place up.
What might be causing this change...
Hi
I am thinking of upgrading my aquarium lighting and am hoping you guys can update me on developments. What are the current favourite products for energy efficiency, colour rendition, etc?
My tank is 60cm, quite heavily planted, tropical, freshwater. I have been using 1 x Philips Aquarelle...
Yes, I do turn it off when cleaning and am always careful to check for fish before putting the filter back together. They actually disappear between cleanings, then reappear after cleaning looking very bedraggled and unhappy but usually still alive!
The 2012 is fairly powerful; it would take...
I have been given a RTBS. He's a bit scrawny and hasn't shown any interest in Tetramin, fresh algae or live Blackworms. What gives? What food do you think he might like?!
Hi
My young Bettas are always getting into the internal filter (Eheim 2012), then getting stuck in there. I can't for the life of me see a way for them to get in. Where is the hole?
BTW, I am talking about fish that are definitely too big to enter via the filter grill.
Thanks :)
Yikes, I'm so glad I asked! Thank you.
Can it be treated in the tank?
Is your avatar a picture of a fishkeeper who was not carefuly about cuts on their hands?
Hi
I have kep Cardinal Tetras for 25 years, and only in the last two or three have I begun to have a problem with them developing crippling twists in their spines. I have noticed that this can come on quite quickly, and sometimes regress quite a bit then reappear. All of them seem to...
"Now if you want to know if its possible to keep a fish in a tank with enough plants if you will be devoted to enough water changes with a really really really light bioload- so much so that there won't be detectable ammonia in the tank- then ask that and we might be able to help you."

Hi
I am not usually a fan of unfiltered tanks, but as long as they are a reasonable size, planted, and have good light, it seems that they can work quite well...
Which fish species have you been able to keep healthy, long-term, in an unfiltered tank?
e.g. I have a pair of Gardneri...
Hi
I have a clear plastic thingy that's been in the tank for a long time, so every nook and cranny now has algae in it. I can almost get it off the flat surfaces, but those little nooks are a nightmare...
Have I got no hope, or does anyone have a special clever way of getting algae off...
Darn, I tried blanched zucchini twice this week and he didn't touch it. The catfish and loaches were all over it, but not him. He's really not a very good eater!
Ah, zucchini, good idea. He's got a better chance of getting a good feed of that because it can stay there for a few hours.
The other fish gobble up the brineshrimp too quickly for him I think.
:)
Hi
My RTBS is looking a bit lean. He spends most of his time chasing other fish away from the food instead of actually eating it himself, so that could be the reason! ..but what food can I tempt him with that he would really like?
Thanks :)
Hi
The house next door to us has ponds in the garden; trouble is, the owner doesn't live in the house and so neglects it, resulting in mosquito-breeding heaven in that pond. I've tried pouring oil on the suface but that's messy and gets washed off by heavy rain, so...

Hi
I am thinking of trying some simple LED strip lights to illuminate a small tank... Should I  . I have no experience with LEDs.
The tank is just 14" long, water depth 7". Any other lights heat up the water too much, but will LEDs be bright enough? How many will I need to make...
